It’s nice to hear this may be your favorite premiere thus far. If nothing else, Jess, you say you quite enjoyed the episode, and I loved your reaction. Start by talking about Cas. It will be interesting seeing how he navigates the mortal world as a mortal. You mention his needing to improve his social/people skills, I can’t say I’d offer any helpful advice on that. That was a touching moment of the kind stranger helping him out, especially as no harm befell said kind stranger. And I liked your reaction to those scenes. I had suspected you’d comment on Cas abandoning his coat. The scene of Dean praying was surely emotional. I haven’t seen Battlestar Galactica, though I know you love it. And I knew Tahmoh Penikett was a major cast member of that. I did not know he’s your favorite on that. Lovely to see his name being part of the double gasp from seeing the guest-star list. As to whether we can trust him, I don’t know, he conveniently avoided directly answering one or two questions. Though that could just me having studied the ways of the Sith as much as I have that I get paranoid when it happens. Regardless, you are looking forward to the performance. If in fact Tahmoh is recurring. The grief counselor scene was triggering, even though I’ve not gone through the experience of a hospital sending a grief counselor to see me. I also got pulled out of the scene when she comments on the EEG, I said, “First of all, Sam is NOT hooked up to an EEG.” I’ve been through the experience of an EEG. They glue about a dozen electrodes to your head to run an EEG, none of that was present here. As to Sam in his head. I can’t even fault Sam for just wanting to die. He has been through what he’s been through, a man can only take so much. As someone who’s gone through depression bad enough that I seriously considered suicide, this felt a touch too realistic at parts. It was intriguing how Dean was the part of Sam’s brain convincing him to live, whilst Bobby, yes, lovely to see him again, personified the part of your brain that tries to kill you. Or at least lulls you into the decision to embrace death. They say death wears a familiar face. Though we have a literal separate personification of Death here, the concept is still shown here. Sam sees Bobby, his dad, his dad argues that the right decision is made, reminds of all the good Sam’s done and that he’s earned the rest. And he even goes so far as to offer the most seriously tempting offer that he’ll be waiting on the other side with a few cold ones ready to go. All of it would be most difficult to resist, and even if Sam acquiesced, which was what he was wanting to do, I can’t even say he would be wrong to do so. Which brings us to the decision Dean made. I can’t say I blame him for the choice he made. I’m a little brother, thus can’t put myself fully in Dean’s shoes on that. I do know one of the major things that’s kept me from attempting suicide when my depression flares up is the thought of what it would do to my brother, my parents, and other loved ones. Right or wrong, though, Dean made his decision. How Sam handles it in the long run remains to be seen. All in all, a great reaction, Jess, one that I greatly enjoyed.
