And there is the moment that made Gilbert my favorite character of The Sandman. I’m lucky enough to live in a town that has a massive gorgeous forest area, simply called “the Glen” by the locals, and back when I first read the comic, this reveal of his true nature immediately put the thought in my head of that place developing its own consciousness and trying out being human, and I still absolutely love the idea. And the show actually did let you know about it early on with the stained glass displays of the three missing residents, with Gault and the Corinthian both showing their familiar selves while the window for Fiddler’s Green just shows an empty green area. Speaking of Gault, that final scene was a lovely surprise since she was invented for the show and even the longtime fans had no idea this is what her story was building to. The closest thing to a single story that The Sandman has is Dream’s development from a lonely god totally aloof from humanity to being more like Death and appreciating the meaning of their lives, and this is a great final note for him in the season to illustrate that. Season 2 is filming right now, and hopefully the SAG strike will be resolved soon so they’ll be able to finish it in a reasonable time. For now I’ll just say, whatever you’re thinking about where Lucifer’s revenge plan will go, you’re way off. And in the meantime we still have the bonus episode, hopefully the first of many with how well it turned out.

That was indeed a lot to take in for this final episode. Or at least the final episode of this arc, or volume if you prefer. It was a touch surprising how quickly the Corinthian was dealt with. But then again, the crux of the arc was more about Rose and her being the vortex, thus it’s not necessarily disappointing. I did like how the Corinthian said he did what he did so he could have a taste of humanity. Which as you stated, has been a recurring theme of the season, and it’s nice to see it revisited here Like you said, hard to say I feel bad for the collectors and their fates. Still a bit grim though. I felt worse for Rose and Jed when they were next to the car of the one guy putting a bullet through his head thus ending his career as a couturier; that’d be a mite traumatizing I should think. A big moment of Rose dealing with the vortex situation. Rather loved Lyta encouraging Rose to kill Morpheus, and being like, “Also, that fucker is not taking my baby.” as you delightfully put it. For the time being, it is nice that Lyta has her child. I like they brought up again how one’s name is only used in trouble. I contend that the bigger concern is when your full name is used complete with your middle name. At which point, you start looking for a safe place to hide, and a clean pair of shorts. Gilbert had a marvelous moment. God did Stephen sell the hell out of his speech. A lovely surprise to reveal his true nature, literally. I did think you’d enjoy it. Yes, both beautiful and tragic, Unity’s fate was. I cheered for her when she called out Morpheus for not being all that bright, I yelled, “Oh, you tell him, honey!” A bit of a jolt when Morpheus confronted Desire, who yes, they did look fierce as hell, I concur. The rather unsettling part was Desire didn’t even seem all that bothered by their plan failing, they just seemed amused, and already they’re planning their next devious scheme. I’m looking forward to it myself. Yeah, I can understand wanting more focus on the occupants of the house, but nice to see they got a happy ending. Except maybe Ken. Most lovely Gault gets her happy ending. Yes, good to see Morpheus showing some growth, though I still say when he has the time, he should seek psychiatric help to work on his people skills. Though I’m not one to talk as I’m terrible, people skills-wise. Definitely a highlight when Lucienne got her due. Your scream of joy at that was MOST wonderful, Jess. Which brings us to the ending scene with the Morningstar. I was expecting Lucifer would pop up again. I had a moment when Azazel arrived, first, when I heard the name, said, “...Isn’t that a character in Good Omens too?” Then I saw him and heard the voice, I got SO excited, yelling, “Oh my God! That’s Roger Allam!!” This has me most excited to see Gwendoline and Roger as Lucifer and Azazel in the second season where I assume they will plan to envelop the dreaming and then the waking world in the solace of the shadows, and the dark of the night. Can’t wait. As to the remaining episode, I am looking forward to it. For now, we’ve concluded the primary arc of the season, and I thank you, Jess for a wonderful journey shared.

Allam was so insanely good in the Tetris movie, the first time I've seen him in a role lasting more than a scene or two. And I imagine you were very happy if you've seen the trailer for the Oliver Twist sequel series The Artful Dodger with David Thewlis as Fagin, a piece of casting so perfect it kind of seems like it shouldn't actually exist.

So, when I got to Gilbert’s big moment in this episode, you were on my mind thinking, “Is this the moment Ryan referred to as his favorite Gilbert moment, or is it something further down the line? If it is this, I must say, a damn good scene.” It’s nice to hear this is the scene in question, and it’s quite lovely to hear why it’s your favorite Gilbert moment. Now you mention it, I do remember his window being devoid of an individual, just the empty green area. Good touch. Someone mentioned Gault was a new creation for the show. Hopefully the strike does end soon. In terms of Lucifer’s revenge plan, I don’t know, I can imagine quite a bit, and quite vividly too. Admittedly, thinking about it, my brain’s presently going to the film Legend and the Omen Trilogy. Thinking of the latter makes me wonder if there’s an antichrist in this world of The Sandman and has me thinking that if so, we could get Sam Neill for that. One, as a nod to his playing Damien way back when, two, I think Sam would be a good fit for this world, and three, I know Jess would be especially happy to see Sam in this show. If none of that happens or I’m completely off the mark, fine, no problem, I’m keeping my options open. If possible, though, I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea, though again, if not, no problem. Meantime, we have next week’s reaction to look forward to. Hope the episode is good.

Haven’t seen the Tetris movie. Roger Allam is fantastic in everything I’ve seen him in. His character in The Thick of It is a close second behind Peter Capaldi’s character. I highly recommend The Thick of It if you’ve not seen it. I had not heard about this Oliver Twist sequel, but yes, casting David Thewlis as Fagin sounds so sublimely perfect it almost doesn’t sound real.
