Shady shenanigans and fuckery abounds in this episode. Most lovely that the Ferengi focus was most enjoyable for you, Jess. I continue to share your love of the moments between Picard and Beverly. God do Patrick and Gates sell those scenes with their remarkable chemistry. The plot of this is good with Bok and the glowy orb causing all sorts of fuckery. I love the poetic nature of the revenge scheme. The only real criticism was how obvious Bok was. This is why I love the Sith; they’re insidious and subtle with their fuckery. Or hell, even Hondo’s not quite THIS overt. And yes, a highlight of the second in command stepping in for reasons of profit and showing there are lines the Ferengi will not cross. As they say, no profit in revenge. A sentiment expressed by David Xanatos from Gargoyles. A most fitting connection as Jonathan Frakes was the voice of that dear beloved character. I think if I were in Picard’s shoes, they would have an easier time of attaining their revenge. My brain being as loud as it is, I more or less have a semi-permanent headache. It’s made worse when I go without caffeine. Thus, if Bok wanted revenge on me, he should go about sabotaging a supply line of coffee and/or caffeinated beverages in general, hot or cold. Pretty much the only reason I drink coffee/caffeinated beverages as much as I do is because of stabilization in my system. Between the overindulgence, my body already being wired to begin with, and the time of being on numerous medications from when I was eight or nine until about twenty-one, if I go a day without caffeine, it is NOT good. Seriously, I’ve had occasions having three cups of coffee midnight or later, slept like a baby. Thus, Jess, I share your desire of a future that’s sans headaches, nice to hear your own have dwindled since your surgery, by the way. Another highlight of the reaction was when Beverly used the not a needle, one, I had the exact same reaction you did, two, I instantly thought of you whilst going through the exact same reaction you did. Thankfully, Jess, for both our sakes, twas not a needle, thank God. Another point of interest: When it was mentioned that the ship was the Stargazer, one, I forgot that ship gets brought up as early as it is, two, I was expecting to possibly cry more than I did. But seeing as it would appear that a certain plot point connected to the Stargazer hadn’t been fully contextualized, that is a crying spell for another time. All in all, a good episode, leading to a great reaction, Jess.

This whole episode is a pretty obvious attempt to fix the portrayal of the Ferengi from The Last Outpost and make them more suitable to being the new Klingons. But first impressions can be a bitch, and the audience had clearly already had its opinion of them set in stone, so soon enough the crew would give up and reduce them to the comic relief race they've been ever since. But none of that keeps the episode itself from being a lot of fun, and it even introduces The Picard Maneuver, which led to a hilarious running gag on set as the cast and crew started using the phrase to refer to Patrick Stewart's tendency to adjust his shirt after standing up from his chair (yeah, good luck not seeing that ever again). On the downside, it also features the moment that permanently cemented Wesley's reputation when he not only comes up with a perfect solution within seconds of learning about the problem, but then scoffs "Adults!" Wil Wheaton has had some choice words for the writer responsible for that line and all the bullying he suffered from it. And though it's not nearly as famous, I also have to just laugh at the attempt to enshrine into canon that Roddenberry's vision of an ideal future (which includes women not being allowed to be captains, remember) is so absurdly perfect that no one's ever heard of headaches.

Unless I misunderstood the prime directive would it have meant they could even have interacted with the planet in the previous episode as they themselves were pre-warp. But I guess we can break that rule of the prime directive because..... Did you see how hot they all were? So hormones override that part of the prime directive i guess. I used to think the concept of them having solved common things like a head ache in the future.... But now I need answers. How does simply having more understanding of how the brain works remove headaches from ever happening? Making up answers for bad writing I would say the put some additives in their food to combat common ailments like headaches etc. Isnt it standard procedure, especially in a combat situation and in enemy territory that when abandoning ship you set it to self destruct so that no one can access the computer logs on the ship? So the Stargazer shouldn't even exist in the first place. Havent rewatch TNG in forever but Wesley shirt here... Not that the BBC would ever admit to taking inspiration from an american show but the 13th doctors trench coat literally 100% using the same color scheme. Rewatching things comes with the downside of starting to over analyze everything I guess. Like I enjoyed Star wars more as a kid though I liked Trek but now as an adult overall Star wars is probably near the bottom of the list in terms of scifi i enjoy. I heard someone refer to Wars as more science fantasy than fiction. Trek has even moved down a bit for me when you haven even more grounded stuff like firefly or the expanse.
