We start things off with a bit of franchise housekeeping, moving the main Rebel base to Yavin in time for Rogue One (which had already been released at this point), and allowing Leia to use the old Dantooine base as a red herring for Tarkin. Which is a necessary step because it's then immediately made clear the show is going back to Lothal full time for its final season, spending its remaining time wrapping up the story it started with. And it's incredibly effective seeing all the areas from the lighter and softer place the show started in now under the Empire's thumb, capped off with the truly shocking reveal of Old Jho's death. It being revealed so off-handedly really drives home these people's amorality and leaves you burning to see them pay, and conveniently that's what we'll be doing from now on as already made clear in the OT. Moving to the next one, Dave Filoni is absolutely obsessed with wolves, to honestly a kind of weird level, so of course things go in this direction. The animation on the Lothwolf is remarkably detailed for the show, and the way it seems exist on its own reality is very well done and fully sells its importance despite our only meeting it now. It's also a real treat to see Thrawn acknowledge how great a pilot Hera is; getting this guy's respect is a big sign of your abilities however much you might hate him.

It is great how the timeline starts building towards Rogue One and A New Hope. And Andor season two, presumably. Revisiting this, it strikes me how the majority of the season feels like an extended made for tv finale not unlike how Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen was for M*A*S*H, which incidentally, they’re putting that on tv on Friday. The entire stretch on Lothal during season four feels like that broken up into sections.
