I can’t speak to fan reception to this episode, but I quite enjoyed it. Lovely to see Felicia as Charlie again. It would be nice if she became a series lead. I still wish we could have had an episode with her, Bobby, Rufus, and Jody. Charlie continues to be delightful. Her shirt reading “Sonmi 451” made me smile, saying, “Hey! I like the shirt!” Concerning the plot, I loved your look of realization about Dorothy. I caught it like a second before she said, “Wicked Witch”, they said “Frank’s kid” combined with the name Dorothy, I realized Frank meant L. Frank Baum. The result was the same as it was for you; I got so excited. An interesting set-up of freeing Dorothy, and with her, old Margaret. That is, if I may call the Wicked Witch Margaret, it seems most appropriate. I got a kick out of Dorothy decrying the books as revisionist history. I noted about the freedom fighter mention, “Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion were freedom fighters. Indicating they’d have access to an arsenal. Which, WOULD explain Scarecrow having a gun in the film, which I’ve always, I’ve always wondered about that.” Alas, they don’t have a joke about that in the episode. You said it was SO NOT ok what happened to Charlie. No. No, it was not, Jess. Your reaction to that moment was, well, it got to me. Bad. Brings us to Zeke. Yeah, I still get a bad vibe from him. You mention he does at least get points for saving Cas and now Charlie, true, and yet, still, something doesn’t seem right. I would apologize for being a skeptical asshole, but you concede you have some doubts as well. It is interesting how the show keeps feeling like it’s middle of the road on how Dean’s in the right and in the wrong with this whole Zeke situation. He is weaving quite the tangled web if nothing else, and I like how Charlie called him out on it. I very much enjoyed Crowley playing both sides and larging sitting things out to see what happens. IMMENSELY wonderful seeing Charlie take out Margaret. The slippers being ruby did pull me out of things some, I said, “Pause on that. Forgive me, in the books, the slippers are silver. They were ruby in the film because of technicolor.” Of course, it’s ruby here in the show as that’s more widely known, hence my making peace with it. I loved Charlie leaving with Dorothy for Oz. I share your hope of we get to see her again. If this was her exit from the show, and I’m not saying it is and/or isn’t, it was a nice exit. Even so, I would like to see her again. Interesting subplot of Sam viewing the bunker as not his home. I kind of side with him on that, or at least understand where he’s coming from. It feels like the show wants you to side with Dean on that one, and I’m just not there on that one. And yes, it was lovely seeing Charlie, Sam, and Dean having a few beers, and watching Game of Thrones. Dean’s accurate description of Joffrey being a dick made me deadpan, “You think he’s bad, wait until you get to a certain someone else who shall remain nameless later down the road in that show.” This was a most wonderful and fun reaction, Jess, thank you so much.
