"I don't think we should interfere.", "Interfere? Of course we should interfere. Always do what you're best at.", Romana and the Doctor, "Nightmare of Eden" This is the first Classic Who story written by Bob Baker without his usual co-author Dave Martin. The pair had been writing stories since "The Claws of Axos" and, among other story ideas, created K9 of course. But this story is by Bob Baker alone - and not exactly a subtle story about drugs - also, not exactly a riveting one. Vrax was originally named "Zip" but they decided to rename it to not sound appealing to children. "Zip" vs "Vrax" - I don't really see the difference. When I watched "The Day of the Doctor" (the 50th anniversary with Matt and David) and saw the 3D "Gallifrey Falls" picture, I was immediately reminded of the CET machine from this story. They did pretty well for a 70's production but based on "Day" you could imagine what they could do these days with the other non-Eden locations. Of course, the other thing the CET reminds us of is the scoop from "Carnival of Monsters". We've seen David Daker, the captain who gets drugged by the drink, before. He was Irongron in "The Time Warrior" - quite a different character - less hair. Oh, and talking about actors we've seen before - Peter Craze who plays one of the Customs officers. We saw Peter all the way back as one of the rebels in "The Space Museum" and we saw him again in "The War Games" but he is also the brother of Michael Craze who played Ben, companion to the 2nd Doctor. But Lalla's costume? Is this the worst we've ever seen? Romana should wear something stylish and elegant (like our host always does). Lalla wasn't impressed - she was speaking on the commentary track for this story and as soon as Romana appeared she switched to talking about her costume. This wasn't a happy production. Actually, it was a Nightmare. "Oh, don't mind him. He just likes to irritate people.", Romana, "Nightmare of Eden"

This story was one of the most chaotic, miserable productions of the whole show. The director was 64 year old Alan Bromly, who'd been working in television since its infancy and was badly out of touch with how the industry had changed since then. This doesn't seem to have been much of an issue on his previous story The Time Warrior, but Baker was always much less shy about voicing his reservations than Pertwee, and before long he had the whole rest of the cast and crew behind him protesting Bromly's outdated scheduling and filming techniques now that much easier ones were available. He left in a huff at the total lack of support and never worked on the show again, and the rest of filming was taken over by producer Graham Williams. After it was over, everyone had t-shirts made saying "I survived Nightmare of Eden."

no doubt Sessakays is happy to have someone in authority that doesn't blame the doctor for what is going on, suspicious at first but aids as best they can, before getting drugged at least
