I love so much that this show is continuing in the proud tradition of showing how much the New Republic sucks and kind of deserved to be overthrown by the First Order. This episode adds the advantage of Peter Jacobson as the face of the former Empire, who fits perfectly as this kind of middle management douchebag to the point I'm surprised he hasn't had more roles like this. And this also continues the message of Benecio del Toro's character in Last Jedi, that anyone who makes a big deal about "not being political" will very likely just end up siding with the bad guys because it's less work. I was already excited to have Huyang in a larger role on the show, and it got even better as Tennant gets to go a bit Capaldi with his brutal, unvarnished truth bombs. Congrats on being one of the few reactors to spot Chopper before his close-up; I have to imagine that was specifically designed to get people going all Rick Dalton. I may have gasped out loud a bit on seeing the episode recreate Sabine and Ahsoka's last scene in Rebels, and it's amazing how well it fits considering there's no way in hell this was the intended context while Filoni was making that ending.

I knew you'd love Ahsoka because it really is kind of a Rebels season 5 situation.

Another great episode for you, Jess. Getting Zeb into the mix would be grand, yes. Good to see you were instantly relieved to see Sabine recovering from her wound. I said, “See? She was stabbed in her side, she’s fine. She might lose a kidney, but you only need one.” Other fans were mad, and kept going on and on about how no one in Disney Star Wars gets killed by a lightsaber stab wound anymore. And after the 3,720th time hearing it, I snapped, and yelled, “ALL RIGHT!! I GET IT!!! SHUT!! UP!!!” It does sting some, how like you said, Sabine’s had the set-back that she had, but she’s willing to dust herself off and get back in the game, yet Ahsoka’s not unreasonably against that. I am loving how your approaching the conflicts between Ahsoka and Sabine, especially how you acknowledge given Ahsoka’s Jedi lineage, her actions do make sense. Good they got the information from the HK droid. Alas, these HK units have their sass function on low, depriving us of the witty repartée, and they don’t call organics “meatbags”, unlike our beloved HK-47 who knew how to turn a phrase. Huyang did not hold back on his observations, and I lived for your reactions to that. The villainous side of things continues to be intriguing. Especially seeing Morgan be quite fanatical, compared to Baylan who remains somewhat enigmatic, and Ray showed his gravitas in the role. He really got my attention when he admits it would be a shame to kill Ahsoka, and he stresses it is the truth. It is a highlight of the two factions both seeking Thrawn and Ezra, and their differing reasons as to why. So, now you see they have an Inquisitor of unknown designation with them, whom they refer to as Marrok, Filoni’s wolf love strikes again. Said Inquisitor became a lightning rod for theories, particularly following the Inquisitor being fairly formidable against Ahsoka. Me, I was an asshole about it, saying to people that their Inquisitorial theories would not amount to much, and would crash, burn, go up in smoke, upend, and ultimately sink to the bottom of the ocean. Of course, I did concede I could be wrong, and kept my options open to see how it would go. Intriguing plotline of the Imperial loyalists, complete with Peter Jacobson being great. And I confess that I blanked on his name when I first saw the episode, saying, “I know this guy, but his name’s not coming to me; what’s this guy’s name?” Upon looking it up, I was reminded he’s the Rabbi in Fear the Walking Dead, hence I anticipated your little gasp upon seeing him. The BIG highlight of the reaction was your reactions to Hera. She is beyond lovely when she goes into Mom mode with both Sabine and Ahsoka, and your reactions to Mary killing it as Hera in those scenes was everything, Jess. Likewise, I was so happy for you that we again get to see Hera continue to be the glorious Queen at being the leaf on the wind. Well evidenced by her soaring like no other, being a bad bitch, dodging all the shots fired. It is similarly a pleasure to see your reactions to dear Chopper, who has not lost his murderous edge, shown when he suggests shooting the transport down, and when he’s told in response that it would crash into the city, he responds with what sounds like, “You say that like it’s a bad thing.” I stand behind your continued love of Hera, and fully endorse your future comments that encourage Hera to “Go do that voodoo that you do so well!” And now Sabine dons again her armor, she beautifully recreates the final scene of Rebels, and she and Ahsoka are going on an adventure. Thankfully they now have the starting point of going to the Denab system, which I heard that, noted, “The Denab system, part of the Sluis sector as I recall, rings a bell.” Seatos is new, though. This on top of the near heart attack I had after hearing Morgan say “The Eye of Sion”, which hearing that, I yelled, “Stop toying with me, Filoni, my heart can’t take it!!” This was just such another lovely reaction to Ahsoka, Jess. I thank you so much, and I am so glad to be sharing this show with you.

I’ve heard Filoni has outright called the show “Rebels season five”. It is great to see Jess loving it.

I’m not entirely sure I would go so far as to say the New Republic deserved what ultimately happened to them. Save for one or two people involved in the New Republic, one of whom we’ll get to soon enough. However, I am loving how the show is continuing showcasing how the New Republic did bring a lot of its destruction onto itself through their complacence and overconfidence, much like the Jedi of old. I could see Peter Jacobson’s turn here lead to becoming a new type for him as he was excellent in this episode. And yes, it continues what we saw with Benicio’s character of those claiming neutrality will more often than not side with evil, because it’s easier. It was great to have David Tennant get the bigger role as Huyang, with him bringing more of his Broadchurch energy, albeit not as dour and grumpy. The Rick Dalton moment I had was, as I mentioned, when they revealed the name, The Eye of Sion. Chopper’s reveal was a great, “There’s my boy!” moment. The recreation of the ending of Rebels, well, there quite a few tears on that one.

I'm pretty sure a big part of why these two episodes were released together was that there wouldn't be nearly enough tension in "Would we go to the trouble of bringing Sabine back in live action just to immediately kill her?", especially since there were a bunch of shots of her in the trailers that hadn't yet appeared. I stopped watching anything Walking Dead after Season 3, so I know Jacobson best as Taub from House MD. I actually assumed that first gasp was because she'd already spotted Chopper.

Awesome reaction, gotta say though I'm a teeny bit surprised you haven't commented much of their ability to bring Lothal to life in live action. It's so good! For a while I wasn't sure how well they would succeed, being a place that only existed in animation till this show.

I love that loth-cat, it just looks so like a puppet, its awesome. I wonder if its the white loth-cat that helped guide Ezra? Speaking of Ezra, Kevin Kiner just HAD to play Ezra's Theme when Ahsoka replayed the message to get me watering up again, damnit! :D He does the same thing doing Hera's Theme playing when she is speaking to Sabine - its too much! I like the scene with Huyang and Sabine, speaking about her training. I think what Huyang is saying is that it doesn't matter if she is strong in the force or not, she can discipline herself to rediscover her purpose with or without Ahsoka's guidance, but obviously having Ahsoka be her master would help her. On her force sensitivity, I think they are harking back to the likes of Chirrut Imwe the monk from Rogue One; where he wasn't that force sensitive, but because he studied the ways of the force, he was able to almost do some of the things a Jedi can do. Sabine can become that at least. Its something new to see someone who isn't force sensitive be trained as a Jedi Knight. Even though Sabine wouldn't have the abilities that someone strong in the force has, that matters less as what being a Jedi represents to the galaxy at large; as a force for good, justice and helping people. There is an interesting mirror to all this with Grogu, someone who was trained at the Temple to be a Jedi Knight, but has since now moved on and wants to be a Mandalorian under Din's guidance, whereas Sabine is a Mandalorian who may become a Jedi Knight. Oh Chopper how we love you so! "Just shoot it down" - Hera : "we can't drop a hyperdrive over a city!" - Chopper "is that bad?" :D They did him brilliantly. Sometimes the jump from animation to live without CGI makes the droids look a bit static, but they got all of Chopper's mannerisms and cheek spot on from the off. God we all love that droid! I remember watching someone react to the trailer and they recognised Hera, but screamed as we saw Chopper! That cheeky little sod - like the rest of the Spectres, have almost become Star Wars icons, and its great to see. Sabine doing a Kanan and cutting her hair off. He did that to shed Kanan Jarrus and become once more, Caleb Dume, Jedi Master. Is this Sabine dropping her past to become a Jedi too? I adore that mural, and seeing Kanan in particular makes my eyes water... :) Baylan showing he still has a fondness for the old order which is why he says killing Ahsoka would be a shame as she still represents that old way, even if he himself has become something else. No wonder they haven't rediscovered Thrawn yet however after a decade since The Battle Of Lothal, when Ezra and the Purgil sent them to another freakin' galaxy!

Might be the same loth-cat. Yeah, Kevin Kiner, like John Williams, knows when to hit you with those themes. It would make sense that if everyone is connected to the Force, thus one can study it, and reach a certain level as Chirrut did. Neat parallel of Grogu going from Jedi to Mandalorian, compared to Sabine who is Mandalorian training to be a Jedi. Chopper was brilliantly brought to live action. Our murderous, war crime committing, cheeky little sod hasn’t missed a beat. It is emotional seeing Sabine chopping her hair, leading to that glorious recreation of the final scene of Rebels. Baylan showing fondness for the old order really got my attention. Thrawn being in a whole other galaxy does somewhat track as the Thrawn trilogy of old, the Watsonian reason why he wasn’t in the Original Trilogy was that he was in the unknown regions. The Doylist reason being that he hadn’t been created yet. Circumstances here are, of course, SLIGHTLY different.
