Ryan

Let's all give a big hand to Ariana Greenblatt. I can't imagine how intimidating it was to step into a role that's already had two hugely beloved actors put their stamp on it and have to carry half an episode on her own, especially at her age, but she pulls it off like a real trooper. She really had a spectacular 2023, following the likes of McKenna Grace and Jenna Ortega in graduating from playing the younger versions of established characters to her own original roles in 65 and Barbie, and still had time to give us another incredible case of the former. She's really going places, and I can't wait to see what she does next to build off all that. And of course along with her we have more of Hayden showing just what he can do with this role when he has decent writing to work with, this time including a flawless transition from Anakin to Vader so that even without the red lightsaber, his face and movement would make it immediately clear who we're now dealing with. And then you add in our very first live action Rex, which Temuera had apparently been asking to play since before he even came back as Boba since he loves the character so much. I'm also in awe of how much Dave Filoni has grown as a director since the days when he freely admitted he had a very awkward time transitioning to live action and his own two episodes were the weakest of The Mandalorian's first season. The shot of Vader flashing over Anakin as he walks into the mist and is followed by all the clones instantly joined my short list of the greatest shots of the entire franchise, and the entire finale with the Purgill is majestic on a level that would fit perfectly on an IMAX screen (though I also have to admit I had way too much fun imagining that whale talk works exactly the same here as in Finding Nemo). On a final note, it was quite a delightful surprise to see this show pay so much homage to the Cal Kestis video games, as the first time we see Ahsoka in the pilot is solving a puzzle straight out of those games, and here she uses Cal's ability of sensing force echoes. I still hold out hope that we'll see him in live action too sometime.
