Fast track evolution. And this also explains how Adric's knee healed so quickly. His species will also have a fast metabolic rate and I suspect that the river fruits have a massive calorific and nutritional content which is why they are prized so much.

I'm glad you found the plot of this one interesting. The writer, Andrew Smith, was only 17 when he submitted the story. He was actually visiting the location filming on his 18th birthday, how cool! He was also the first proper fan to write for the show. Sadly it was his idea to have K9's head bashed off, not a fan of our favourite tin dog was Andrew. Also sadly, this was his only contribution to the tv show, he did have several other stories he wanted to write in the next few seasons but none of them made it to the production stage, I believe one of these; The Lost Stories audio story The First Sontarans. He has since written many, many stories for Big Finish and you can still find him on Twitter @Andr3wSmith, I feel you might want to pass on your thoughts about the K9 incident! However I believe he's not as antagonistic towards the little guy these days.

Think I’d like to borrow some of that fast track evolution for my own knee. I have had a bum knee for about a decade now. It aches every single day. Twice as bad when it rains and/or gets spectacularly humid, though not when it gets cold, which is a blessing as Winters can get fantastically and BRUTALLY cold in the American Midwest where I’ve lived all my life; this month has been an arctic hell practically.

Ever tried MSM? - Methylsulfonylmethane Look up it's discovery in paper mills. Or glucosamine chondroitin? Knees are a damn nuisance, considering we bear our weight on the things every day of our lives!

I try not to take much of anything unless I have too. I have worn a knee sleeve when it gets particularly bad, which helps a lot on days where I am on my feet all day.

Okay, well, what I did - most certainly - is lay off meat, wheat and especially all dairy. The inflammation got worse for quite a while and then it all quietened down. The once worst now gives no tribble at all! As we age - of course - that's when all the things that we used to tolerate become a damn nuisance and give us hell. My cousin took the same route and discovered some relief as well and can pick up his drumsticks again - much to the neighbours chagrin!

Thanks for another great reaction. I find the twist in this story fascinating. I thought it was really well written. I'm not entirely sure why they felt the need to confine it all to the 'system files' to which only 1 individual was privvy & can only guess that they were terrified of taking off in the Star Liner. I originally thought it was because every time mistfall came, the Marsh people entered the Star Liner, killed the human occupants & smashed up the ship. Then they evolved to be the humans who spent years repairing it, before the cycle repeated itself but I think that's inaccurate given some of them recalled the last mistfall. Anyway, am glad you ngenerally enjoyed this story. Poor K-9 is becoming like Kenny in South Park! See you next time!

I suspect that poor K-9 becoming like Kenny is a creative decision that I am sure Jess would greatly appreciate being reversed.

Look up Bluebottle - as played by Peter Sellers in The Goon Show in the 50s. Always had the feeling that he was the original 'Kenny'.
