Tarrlok's motive is really unclear and not really explored but there are some veeery subtle hints which give it away, - In Out of The Past Tarrlok says to Korra "My father failed because he tried to rule the city from its rotten underbelly, my plan was perfect, I was to be the city's savior, but you- you ruined everything", (Note that he feels the need to bring up his father's plans when Korra says he's Yakone's son) - Tarrlok doesn't immediately try to blood bend Korra in their fight, he tries to take her out with water bending first (in fact he tries to straight up kill her with that first attack) - My theory is that Tarrlok always held resentment towards his father for all the abuse he inflicted onto him and his brother and for ruining his childhood, and because of that, out of spite Tarrlok wanted to do what his father couldn't do, take over republic city, AND to do it through the legal system which condemned his father, AND to do it without using the blood bending abilities which his father forced onto him. Now it's unlikely that he was planning this since childhood, but he was likely making his way up the world for his own benefit, because he has no one else, and at some point came across the opportunity to be on the council and go through with all of that, and he may not have even realized it himself until he lost everything. There's my bit of overanalyzing, oh to think how much more they could explore within the story if they had 20 episodes instead of 12 :')

I've been watching this series since the beginning and only recently been able to have the spare income to get your patreon. I love your content and it's been of great comfort to me over these couple years so I just wanted to say something to let you know that you do great work that really does stick with people, there's a reason you grew so fast.

I still think that the Avatar should be the only one with that ability truly but I am overall okay with how they did Amon. Unaloq on the other hand……

I always interpreted Bumi being called "the bravest commander" as evidence of exactly what you mentioned — unlike most commanders, he actually is on the front-lines, fighting alongside his men, willing to get himself killed as much or more as them. the first one to lead the charge, the last one to retreat. that's a neat character trait, especially for Aang's son. and that's pretty consistent with what we see him do in later seasons (though, then again, he does leave the united forces, and his combat is mostly played for laughs)

Telegraphs CAN be Radio based, but it probably should have been better shown why this man was able to do so but the government with newer/better equipment wasn't.

Okay, so the whole you cant bend platinum actually makes since with this. We know that toph was basically bending the impurities in metal, now really the metal itself. Most metals will bond to other metals making them impure, but platinum doesn't bod with other metals, so if you make something out of platinum, it won't have impurities, meaning they cant be bent. Now getting that much platinum is a problem since it is 30 times rarer then gold, but that's something we can suspend our disbelief on.
