My problem with what they do to aang as a father is specifically that he didn’t take his other kids to see the temples and explore his culture. He was WILDLY excited to show two random waterbenders he had JUST met all about his temple, but he would totally forget two of his whole ass children? Trying to make aang a not perfect father is Great and all, but it starts to feel like character assassination when the parts that he fails at don’t line up with what his character has been shown to do in the past. I could see aang hyper focusing on tenzin, but just not bringing his kids or entire family at all? Mah

0:20 the path is clear because the ice slabs pushed the show to the side

I don't have a problem with Aang not being a perfect father. What I have a problem with is that the Korra writers seemed to go out of their way to take a shit on Avatar by making all of the gaang grow into 'deeply flawed' adults (except maybe Zuko, although that honestly makes it worse, because then the takeaway is 'bad people become good people, but good people become bad people'). The counterargument is usually, "oh it's so gritty and realistic" but honestly it only seems realistic if you grew up with crappy or absentee parents, or if you yourself grew into a pessimistic waste of skin adult. Korra as a show wants so bad to be a mature and realistic show, but it fails miserably and instead is just cynical and in-your-face in a way that is much more childish than Avatar's nuanced optimism amidst hard circumstances. And even if it /were/ realistic, realism is not the same as good when it comes to storytelling. I think you've touched on a number of these points in previous videos.

Fighting a shadow of yourself on the birthday, the winner becomes the person for a year is such an amazing character idea. Love the credit jokes

I’m sure Aang must have taken all the kids to the temples, at least a few times. To me it just feels like he took lots of extra special Tenzin-only trips and neither of the other kids got that kind of bonding experience with him. Unless it’s established somewhere in LOK that Bumi and Kya had never been to the temples before? I honestly can’t remember if they did
