I don't think I've ever seen a story like this where the offender was just a regular guy. So often they are made disgusting or evil or someone you don't have to confront the humanity of. I'm sure if Nick's sister knew she wouldn't want anything to do with this guy but it's a big burden for Nick to carry. Would he see it as him ruining his sister's relationship or ruining someone's life? I'm very intrigued to see how things resolve.
