Chapter #14: Fake love, part I.
It was time for their fake date, Daphne was wearing a white sundress, a white hat, and brown sandals, Harry, on the other hand, was wearing black shoes, blue jeans, and a red shirt with square patterns, he extended his hand, and she grabbed it without hesitation.
“Ready for our fake date?” He asked with a slight smirk.
“Yes, I’m eager to experience what a date is like in the muggle world…Even if it’s fake,” she said, not truly believing the last part.
They both knew that they were just pretending, this was a true date, but to not break the contract they made by accepting to participate in this program, for the sake of it, they decided to keep treating this as a fake date.
Soon they got out of the house and got inside the car, now Daphne knew everything she needed to know when it came to riding in a car, she put the safety belt, and Harry did the same thing.
This time, he decided to take her to a closer place, which was located on the outskirts of the town that was close to the private village where they were staying.
“A cinema, what is that?” She asked with a curious expression.
“It’s a place where you can watch movies,” he answered with a calm tone.
“But…We could’ve watched movies on the TV, at home, what is the point of this place, then?” She asked with a confused tone.
“Well, to be fair, while it’s true that there are endless options of movies on TV, in the cinema you can watch the recently filmed movies, while on TV it’s mostly older movies,” he answered with complete honesty.
Now she knew there was value in this experience, watching the newest movies would be interesting, after all, the last movie they watched on TV was from the year 2015, and the effects, according to Harry, weren’t bad, but they couldn’t be compared to today’s standards.
Once he parked the car and they got inside the cinema, Daphne couldn’t help but like the way the place smelled, it was intoxicating and delicious for some reason.
“Harry…What is that smell? It’s great,” she was amazed by the many lights and all the things going on inside the place.
“It’s the popcorn, Daphne, we’re going to grab a bucket, don’t worry, you're going to have enough to fill your stomach, I just hope you don't get tired of them,” he promised her, and she nodded happily, she was already looking forward to eating popcorn.
“So, what are we going to watch? The posters make everything look interesting,” she muttered with clear interest in the many pictures glued on the walls.
“Well, I’m personally a fan of European cinema, it’s more realistic and crude but it seems like there’s not much of it aside from the romantic ones, they have a French movie about a forbidden romance between two women but I’m sure it’s going to be depressing as hell, it’s typical from the French directors,” he said with a weak smile.
She nodded and continued looking everywhere, trying to find something that could catch her complete interest.
“It seems like there we have anime movies, action, but there are also too many superhero movies, do you remember the Deadpool movie we watched, right?” He asked with a calm expression.
“How could I not? It was so funny!” She tried not to laugh at the memory of them watching it late in the night.
“Well, there are many movies like that, however, most of them are more toned down as people of all ages could watch them, but still, there are tons of action and some drama in them,” he calmly explained, and she nodded.
“That doesn’t sound too bad, let’s watch one of those movies!” She said, completely excited, and soon they got tickets for the latest popular superhero movie that has probably been a commercial success.
They grabbed their snacks, and just as Harry promised her, he got her a big bucket of popcorn, and she happily started to gulp them down before they even got inside the room.
Harry, on the other hand, got an orange soda and a small bucket of popcorn alongside many chocolate bars, they chatted for a while until it was finally time for the movie to start, he explained to her that it was rude to talk while the movie was on.
It made sense for her, not that she was going to talk and ruin the experience for the other people but it was good that he cared enough to tell her that, knowing herself she would’ve let out noises out of nowhere, however, he also told her that laughing, gasping or showing some emotions wasn’t too bad as that was part of the experience as long as you don't wail loud enough for the whole room to hear you.
Harry didn’t need to know too much about the lore of the superheroes the movie was all about, however, he wasn’t surprised to find that it was the typical movie of some guys with superpowers who suddenly faced troubles and the drama that surrounded them.
He wanted to be annoyed, but at the same time, he could easily identify with them, after all, he went through the same thing last year when he was searching for the Horcruxes across the country, maybe life was truly a cliché in a sense and not the masterpiece he always thought his life could be.
It was fun to see Daphne being surprised at the effects, scared of some things, and also, being emotionally attached to the characters, she was especially fixated on the female ones, something that surprised him, but he didn’t blame her, the female heroes were very pretty after all.
Surprisingly, she managed to finish the bucket of popcorn, and now he had to share his chocolates with her, he didn’t mind, though, she loved the chocolate bars, but most of all, she loved his soda, she regretted not getting one for herself.
As the movie kept going, Harry wasn’t too immersed, but he knew that later the blonde was going to discuss with him what they were watching, so, he decided to pay some attention, but at one point it was hard to concentrate as she suddenly grabbed his hand as if her life depended on it.
She was too invested in the movie and he didn’t know how to feel about it, in one hand he was happy and on the other he experienced many other emotions he didn’t want to be true, he was truly falling in love with her, he knew he needed to be strong but that was easier to say than do.
He also didn’t expect her to fall on his chest at the end of the movie, she was sobbing at the apparent death of one of the protagonists, only to be surprised that he was alive, just like Harry expected, but he stopped himself from ruining her experience.
He was more focused on the fact that her head was resting on his chest, and even after the tragedy ended and the happiness returned to the movie as it finished, she never stopped resting on his chest.
Harry was surprised, despite the awful movie they watched, he had a great time, the company was great, he couldn’t believe how comfortable he felt around Daphne, this was the first time since he broke up with Ginny that he was feeling okay with a person of the opposite gender being close to him aside from Hermione.
It was scary and yet exciting at the same time, and the most amazing thing was that the date had just started, there were many things left to do.
