Chapter #4: A serious talk.
They were happy yesterday when they planned to use posters to convince people to ask the government to break the statute of secrecy, but this has been proven to be nothing but a disaster, they started with school before doing it in Diagon Alley, and they decided to put them in the great hall so people could see them.
Most people weren’t too happy with the idea, and it seems like the school staff was now looking for the responsible person or persons behind these posters, luckily Harry and Hermione managed to hide their magical signature from the posters, so they couldn’t be traced to them.
Now that they were back in the room of requirement, they realized that their plan had too many flaws, of course, people weren’t going to be happy to be told something like this, they should’ve realized that truth way sooner.
“I seriously don’t know how we can achieve it without destroying the ICW, and realistically speaking, I don’t think there’s an army big enough to destroy them,” Harry’s words were desperate, and Hermione felt the same.
Maybe this wasn’t the right path to follow to change the magical world, but if this isn’t, then what is the right way to do this? Harry wanted his name to go through history, but he had priorities, he needed gold to fulfill his dreams, and that’s not going to happen unless he finds who stole his gold or if he finds a way to get more gold.
“We need money,” Harry told her with a serious look.
Hermione looked back at him with a calm expression, but in the end, she nodded, he was right, you can’t fund a political movement without the right funding.
“That’s going to be hard with our studies and all that,” Hermione couldn’t help but sigh, and Harry smiled sympathetically at her.
“Don’t worry…This place is full of treasures, we should find a way to collect all the valuables and sell them,” Harry explained to her.
The bushy-haired witch was a bit uncertain about that, all of this belonged to the school, so, in her mind, it was morally wrong to grab something that wasn’t theirs, but they were desperate, she dreamed of a world were elves weren't slaves, so, in the end, she nodded, and soon, they started to collect things.
Luckily, they found a bottomless pouch here, and soon the thing was getting filled with the many artifacts, the only rule was to leave the books alone, as Hermione wanted to look at them deeply once she had time.
“So, how are you planning to sell them?” Asked the bushy-haired witch.
“Don’t worry, I know a guy who can get me a nice price, he’s a burglar I caught stealing from my godfather’s home, we can make deals with him, don’t worry,” she was a bit worried, but in the end, she nodded.
They kept going until the place was almost empty, once they finished, they were sitting in a comfortable silence, but there was something Hermione needed to discuss with him.
“Harry…We need to talk about what you know about your inheritance, there’s no way so much money could’ve disappeared so easily from Gringotts,” Hermione told him, and he nodded.
“Trust me, Hermione, that’s something I’ve been telling myself since I turned eighteen, I’ve always been told how my family was one of the richest, and yet, the moment I reach the right age to claim my inheritance, it turns out that there’s nothing to write home about,” Harry had a serious expression right now.
Clearly, this wasn’t an easy topic for him, but it was something he needed to find out to either get his gold from the person or persons responsible or kill them for what they've done.
“Do you have any idea if your parents still have friends alive?” Asked the brown-haired witch with a curious expression.
“I only know Hagrid used to be friends with them, there was my godfather and their friend, a werewolf named Remus, but they're both dead too,” Harry explained with a calm tone.
Hermione nodded as she tried to get something from that.
“Everything I’m thinking about is nothing but conjectures, but…If they knew Hagrid, I’m sure they knew Dumbledore too, and if that’s the case, I’m sure we can get more information from our dear headmaster,” Hermione tried to help him.
“I wish it were that easy, Hermione, but…No matter how much I ask him about my parents, he never seems eager to share what he knows about them, he’s always busy,” Harry couldn’t help but sigh.
“The only other option I’m thinking about is the possibility of your parents taking most of the money from the vault, and somehow it got lost,” Hermione said with a thoughtful expression adorning her face.
Harry nodded, it made sense what she was trying to imply, but what if it was stolen? Harry has no idea what his parents' plans were back then, the only thing he knows is that they were probably desperate because of the war, that's why they decided to take the money out of the vault, and somehow, all of it disappeared.
“Are you sure your relatives don’t know anything about your family’s situation?” She was getting out of ideas.
She knew about the complicated relationship between him and his relatives, but any bit of information was appreciated.
“I doubt it, and even if they know, I don’t think they’ll gladly hand us that information,” he couldn’t help but admit.
He was happy he didn’t have to deal with them any longer, but he knew that never in hell would they know something like that, or else they would have already stolen it, also, it’s impossible to rob from Gringotts even for wizards, no, there was something else going on here, and he wanted to find out what it was.
Sensing how tense he was, Hermione decided to grab his hand and caress it gently, which earned her a weak smile from him, it seems like no matter the circumstances, as long as he has Hermione in his life, he feels like there’s still hope.
“We’re going to find out what happened, Harry, and we’re going to punish whoever did this, I’m sure of it,” Hermione said before she planted a soft kiss on his cheeks and then on his mouth.
The kiss was soft, and they felt like there was nothing else mattering in the world, they didn’t care about anything other than feeling the taste of their lips, this was a very difficult situation for the dark-haired wizard, there was clearly someone behind all this.
There was a clear intent, someone was conspiring to drive him insane for some reason, he was hoping he was wrong, but the timing and everything seemed way too much like a perfect coincidence.
Soon after the kiss ended, they both remained on the floor, Hermione was resting her head on Harry’s chest while they stared at the apparently infinite ceiling of the room of requirement, nothing else mattered to them right now.
At least for now, they can hope to have some peace and forget about the problems outside, many thought that Neville being forced to enter the Tri-Wizard tournament was something amazing, but Harry and Hermione felt the opposite.
It felt like the prelude of something horrible, of course, it wasn’t their duty to find out what was going on, but they still felt the need to try something and not just stand there, maybe it was time to become some kind of vigilante.
