Chapter #1 (Free): The rise of the background character #1

All characters are adults

Chapter #9: Not a game.

The dragon was out of control, the judges and everyone involved in this task believed that motherhood would cause the dragons to be more careful but they also seemed to forget that dragons are wild creatures and in the wilds, animals sometimes think their offspring is disposable, after all, another batch of eggs may come in the near future as long as the one who lays them is still alive, it’s a sacrifice for the greater good.

It's clear that this dragon, the Hungarian horntail has gained its reputation as the most ruthless species, the only thing that stopped the dragon from breaking out and burning everyone alive were the eggs but now that they were destroyed by the dragon because of negligence or because she thought they were more like a baggage instead of something to take care of there was nothing that could stop the dragon's rage.

The dragon handlers were surely taking their time, something the dragon wasn’t doing as it quickly started shooting fire into the air, and then, the dragon got ready to attack the crowd.

“Fuck!” Harry said, considering his options.

Hermione was completely scared, she was paralyzed while there was chaos on the stands, and the fire attack was on its way, there was only one thing Harry could do before the fire reached them.

He took his wand out and then shot an ice beam attack towards the dragon’s mouth, and this caused the attacks to collide, this action caused small particles of ice to move around the place, and logically there was also steam as a consequence, now Harry understood why ice was better than water when dealing with dragons, it seems like Pokémon wasn’t too far behind.

Harry was completely unaware that everyone was staring at him, but the image of him putting a stop to the dragon’s fire was enough to motivate the rest of the crowd to try to do something, petrificus totalus, ice attacks and many other type of spells were fired until the dragon handlers finally managed to put the dragon to sleep so they could have it under control.

Everyone was about to celebrate until they heard a painful female screech, it came from an old woman that Harry knew as Augusta Longbottom, she was Neville’s grandmother, and the reason why she screamed like that made sense.

“Oh shit,” Harry said at the gruesome sight.

Neville Longbottom was lying on the ground without his head, it seems that the dragon's attack made his skull crash against a wall, which caused him to look like that.

To say Dumbledore was shocked would be an understatement, but he wasn’t the only one in that state, the minister and even Professor Moody were shocked, soon, the officers ran to assist the dead wizard, Harry didn’t see the point in them doing that, but he had other priorities.

“No, no!” Hermione screamed, and Harry held her so she wouldn’t fall on the ground, from that height she could easily break her neck. “No, let me go!” Hermione tried to break free.

It’s clear that the relationship between her, Neville, and Ron Weasley hasn’t been the best, heck, the last conversation they had, Neville snapped at her because she was concerned about him, she was worried if he had practiced enough for the task, and his response was simple.

“Stop being so annoying, Hermione, Dumbledore said I’m destined to destroy Voldemort, there’s no way I’m dying from a dragon!” He said with an annoyed tone, while Ron agreed with him and then left her to collect her thoughts alone.

Harry was very angry, he wanted to make them pay for making Hermione sad but, now that the Longbottom was gone, there was no point in holding a grudge, to be honest, Harry didn’t care too much about him, he heard that he killed a teacher during their first year but Dumbledore never openly spoke the incident, just that Quirrell disappeared to be never be heard again.

Soon Hermione started sobbing once she saw Neville’s lifeless body, even if it was covered with a blanket, it was clear that they were too late, he was gone, and this was something magic couldn’t fix. She cried on his arms, and even if he didn’t care about Longbottom, he tried to comfort her in any way he could.

A few hours later, outside the infirmary, Harry was waiting for Hermione to come out, he wasn’t a family member, neither a friend of the deceased but he wanted to know all the details, but also, he was waiting for his girlfriend to come out.

However, the first person that came out of the room was Professor Moody, the man had always been creepy, but with all the blood on his clothes, clearly from getting too close to the body, he looked even worse, like one of those serial killers from movies.

“Professor Moody, are you alright?” Asked Harry with a concerned expression.

The man looked too anxious, but at the same time, he looked amused, soon, the older wizard shared a look with him, in different circumstances, he truly could’ve creeped him out, but Harry was already used to shady people from his time as a duelist in the illegal pit.

“Yes…Yes, I'm more than well, Potter,” the man smirked at him, but he quickly changed his expression to a more serious one. “Well, I'd better get going, Potter, need to change these clothes,” Moody didn’t even wait for Harry to say something else.

Harry couldn’t help but sigh, it made sense for the man to be so indifferent about the death of a student, after all, he has seen more than enough death a man could live with for a lifetime. Harry was too busy collecting his thoughts of the day that he didn’t realize when someone else joined him.

“That was a good ice attack,” that voice belonged to a female with a French accent, it was a Beauxbatons student.

Harry looked at her, she was perfect, like a muggle model, blonde, blue eyes, tall, and her figure was incredible, still, even if she was perfect, Harry wouldn’t give her too much of a thought unless he could get something from her, but then he realized who the woman was, she was currently the most popular woman at school.

“Thank you, Miss Fleur Delacour,” Harry said with a smirk he used every time he met a new woman.

You never know what you can get with that smirk, sometimes it’s sex, other times it's gifts like jewelry and money, and during his rough days, just a few drinks and food are more than enough.

“I don’t know why, but it felt like a strategy taken from a video game? Have you played Pokémon? Platinum is my favorite game,” she told him with a smirk.

Harry couldn’t help but chuckle. But before he could say something else, two women who were dressed as Aurors joined them, there was one with purple hair and another with red hair.

“Sorry to bother you, Mr. and Mrs.?” The older redhead asked with a raised brow.

“Potter,” “Delacour,” Harry and Fleur said with calm expressions.

“I’m Amelia, and she’s Tonks, we’d like to ask you some questions regarding today’s event,” the redhead said in the calmest tone possible.

Harry had already been working his Potter charm on the two Aurors, he wasn’t delusional enough to think he could seduce two cops, but, he could always dream, right?

Author's note I know Pokémon Platinum came out like ten years after the events of Goblet of Fire, but this story takes place in our current year (2025), sorry for not clarifying that earlier.
