Chapter #11: Revelations.
Harry was having a hard time keeping a cool attitude; many emotions were running through his mind, but above everything, he was confused; he wasn’t sure why Dumbledore exactly wanted to talk with him, he was hoping the old wizard wouldn't find out about his plans.
Someone like him holds a lot of power, and he’s part of the group that wants to keep the statute of secrecy, so, it makes sense for Harry to feel worried as his views can be seen as extremist, he’s just tired of hiding as if they’re rats, no, they’re lucky to have magic and it should be used to benefit everyone.
If muggles and wizards wanted, they could create the perfect society as long as they both see the benefits that the alliance could bring, and in the future being a wizard or a witch could be the normal thing for the average human and also, and if you add to that the knowledge that muggles have about technology and science, with the help of magic the world could be saved, and both societies could reach a great potential.
“Well, we’re finally here, Mr. Potter,” Dumbledore interrupted Harry’s thoughts.
The dark-haired wizard looked around the office and nodded, soon, the two of them got comfortable, Dumbledore sat behind his desk in front of Harry, there was a calm silence, but in the end, Dumbledore decided to break the ice.
“Before I start, Harry, I would like to clarify that you’re not in trouble, in fact…I brought you here because I need your help,” Dumbledore told him with a sad tone.
To say Harry was surprised would be an understatement; still, he remained in silence for a few moments as he analyzed the situation.
“My help? Why would the strongest wizard in the world need my help? I’m just a normal student, my grades aren’t even that great…” Harry said with a confused tone.
“It’s not about power, Harry…It’s about destiny,” Dumbledore’s words surprised him.
“What do you mean, Sir?” Harry was starting to lose his patience.
One of the things he disliked the most about Dumbledore is that he liked to be so dramatic; he liked to beat around the bush, Harry preferred a more direct approach to things.
“Nineteen years ago, a person, a descendant of a great seer, prophesied that the one destined to defeat the dark lord was going to be born soon, the product of those who defied the dark lord thrice as the seven-month dies…” Dumbledore said with a serious tone.
“So, someone born in July, it would be difficult to find who’s his real enemy, considering it doesn’t specify the nationality or if it’s a muggle or a wizard, what if he has to be killed by muggle weapons?” Harry wondered.
He had a feeling where this was going, but he was being wary. As for Dumbledore, he was surprised by Harry’s words, and soon, he was caressing his chin, he never thought about that approach.
“I…I never thought about it…” The old wizard was at a loss for words. “Anyway, my point is that the prophecy spoke about Neville and probably you if we consider only the magical children born in July of 2007,” Dumbledore’s words would’ve shocked any other person.
Harry, on his hand, could only stare at him with a bewildered expression.
“What do you mean by ‘probably you’?” Harry had no idea what the old wizard was talking about.
“Well, I don’t know if you know this, Harry, but…You were born in a muggle hospital,” Dumbledore explained.
Harry didn’t know why this was important.
“No, there was no one to tell me about my origins, my parents, their friends, my wealth, there's nothing, all of them are gone,” Harry said with a serious look. “But what does that have to do with the prophecy? If it specified a muggle hospital, then we’re in trouble,” the dark-haired wizard was worried.
Dumbledore could only chuckle.
“You see Harry, both magical people and muggles measure time, but muggles have a standard number to count how long a day lasts, their number is always the same, we magical people have a more precise way to measure time, we follow nature, so if according to nature, a day has 23 hours and 58 minutes then that’s what our day is while for muggles, the day will always last exactly 24 hours,” the old wizard clarified.
“So…?” Harry was starting to get desperate.
“The prophecy speaks about someone born at the end of July, according to muggle records, you were born on July 31 of the year 2007 at 23:58, but…” Dumbledore stopped. “That day lasted only 23 hours and 55 minutes, so while in the muggle world you were born on the last day of July, in the magical world you were born on August 1st, thus, Neville Longbottom was declared as the real boy the prophecy spoke about, but…” Dumbledore massaged his temples.
“He’s fucking dead,” Harry said with zero emotion in his voice.
Dumbledore couldn’t find it in himself to discipline the Potter heir, but in the end, he nodded.
“Yes, that’s the gist of it, and the prophecy hasn’t been fulfilled yet—” Dumbledore was stopped by Harry.
“Wait, wait, wait…Don’t tell me that you want me to become your new poster boy against Voldemort? Wasn’t he supposed to be dead already?” Harry questioned with a concerned tone.
“No…He’s not dead, Harry, in fact, he possessed a teacher during your first year, he stole one important item that I brought to hide here, but the moment that teacher touched the item, he disintegrated, I guess, the item had too much positive magic for him to handle,” Dumbledore thought about those days.
Harry remained silent for a few minutes until he gulped.
“Quirrell…” The dark-haired wizard told him with a shocked expression. “I knew the bastard was shady; that fake stuttering surely gave him away,” Harry couldn’t help but chuckle.
That year, many strange things happened, and many people speculated about the culprit behind all the crazy things they witnessed. And while everyone bet on Snape, Harry decided to put his money on Quirrel, after all, the man was new, and he looked like he was trying too hard to look like a wuss, he was the perfect candidate.
“Have you ever thought that maybe it’s not a good idea to rely on prophecies? I mean, divination is kind of a dubious subject,” Harry tried to make the old wizard leave him alone.
But if he’s truly a real threat against Voldemort, then he could use this for his advantage, it could help him reach his dreams, still, he didn’t want to sell himself too easily; he needed to be calm before he made a deal with the old wizard.
“I’m sorry, Harry, but the prophecy is very real, and while Voldemort was destroyed thanks to a ritual made by Neville’s parents, he’s still alive and preparing to get his body back,” Dumbledore sighed. “The prophecy is still in the hall of prophecies, so, the thing is very much real, I was wrong once, but this time I think you're the one the prophecy speaks about, Harry,” the old wizard said in the most grandfatherly tone.
Harry, on the other hand, was analyzing his situation, what he could gain from this, and how to proceed, it was a very tough choice, he needed to know how to play his cards so that in the end, he could be at the top regardless of the outcome of this battle.
