Chapter #42: Time is a thief when you’re undecided.
This must be an illusion, that's what Harry thought as he saw destruction, chaos, blood, screams. That’s what Harry was able to witness: the plan went wrong, very wrong, but even if he was confused, he still felt the need to search for his loved ones.
“Mum…Dad…Henry…Tonks?!” Harry screamed, and there wasn’t any sight of them.
“What? Did one of them remain alive?” Harry heard the voice he didn’t want to hear.
It was Voldemort, and now the monster was standing in front of him, his faithful snake was swallowing his godfather’s body. But soon, many wands were pointed at Harry.
“Boy…You’re the youngest Potter, right? Well, what a nice day to see you, you see, I came here to make my traitor puppet pay…” Voldemort then showed Harry Lucius Malfoy’s dead body.
To say Harry was nauseous would be an understatement.
“…However, it seems like not only did I manage to kill some traitors, but also the enemies I’ve been chasing for almost twenty years…It feels good to know that I was right, everyone was trying to kill me…I was right!” Voldemort said with a wicked expression.
Then with his wand, he raised three bodies, and Harry’s eyes widened. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing; his parents and Henry were dead, and realistically speaking, probably the rest of his loved ones, Tonks and Hermione, must be among the casualties, too.
“No…This is not real...This is an illusion I must fight against!” Harry couldn’t believe it; they couldn’t be gone yet.
He needed them; he needed to focus, as this was surely illusory magic, something Voldemort was an expert at. However, before Harry could think about doing something else, he heard someone coughing, so he ran to see the person who was coughing.
“Tonks…You’re going to be alright, I swear—” Harry said with a sad tone.
His girlfriend’s face was bruised, and she looked so delicate right now, as if she were made of glass and a slight wrong move could break her; she became the thing she hated the most.
“Harry…Please, don’t make promises you can’t fulfill,” she said with a weak smile. “My body is paralyzed below the neck,” she told him everything he needed to know.
Something like this was hard to cure even for magical standards, and he could only weep as he held her; this illusion was too powerful that Harry forgot this could be a trick.
“Please, don’t be sad for me…I had fun, I just…I just need to take something for the other life, I want to see you smile for the last time, and I want a kiss, please…That’s the only thing I—” Tonks couldn’t continue because a killing curse was sent towards her.
So, her life ended without Harry giving her the simplest thing he could give her, he held her lifeless body on his arms and he was shocked, he didn’t know what he was going to do now that he lost everyone, Draco was on the other side of the room completely dead and Tonks, his sweet Nymphadora was gone, his biggest regret was not spending more time with her.
“It’s all my fault…” Harry said to himself.
Voldemort looked at him with a curious expression.
“I wanted to bring this government down because, ironically, in the end, we were living in nothing but an illusion. I preferred to die rather than not being free to investigate and study whatever I wanted…I was selfish, and those decisions led to everyone I loved losing their lives, or at least it is in this illusion...I applaud you, this feels very real,” Harry said with a cold expression.
“So, it’s true, the suspicions we had were true, you were really working against us, Potter, so ungrateful even after we supported your stupid projects!” Voldemort said angrily.
Harry suddenly took a watch from his pocket. He looked at it with a sad expression. This watch meant a lot to him, so he whispered something on it and then put it back in his pocket.
Meanwhile, Voldemort saw something interesting James Potter was carrying, and he smirked.
“So, this is where it was…The elder wand, I’ve been looking for this since that old coot’s death. I must thank the Potter family for this gift…By killing their last member with it!” Voldemort declared, and soon the battle started.
Spells were being thrown at the other, and Voldemort didn’t even care that he was putting his followers in danger, too. This was the first time in ages that he was having too much fun fighting against someone; he couldn’t believe that this boy would manage to be a fun enemy.
“Ah…Potter…This is great…But it’s going to take more than that to take me down!” Voldemort laughed as if this were a mere joke.
But Harry wasn’t backing down, he was going to continue his relentless attacks even if it was the last thing he did, by doing that he was sure he would go out of this illusion in which everyone he loved as gone, there was nothing for him to lose, he needed to succeed, and somehow, Harry managed something impressing, he managed to disarm Voldemort now making himself the master of the elder wand.
“Avada Kedrava!” Harry screamed at the snake, and the thing was finally gone.
“Noooooooo!” Voldemort screamed, not believing what he was seeing. “You’re going to pay for this!” He wasn’t playing around.
Harry was expecting the elder wand to give him an advantage, but it didn’t. Voldemort sent him crashing against a wall, and that was the end of his bravery.
“Fuck…I was so focused on killing the snake…I seriously thought he was going to die if I killed the snake…” Harry said with a sad tone.
“Foolish boy, even if you destroyed all my horcruxes, I would still have my original soul in my current body…Before I kill you, there's one thing you should know...This is not an illusion, this is very much real...So, it’s over, it's time to go, boy—” Voldemort mocked Harry.
However, the emerald-eyed wizard suddenly started to laugh; even Voldemort was surprised. It seemed like he was losing his mind.
“Well, if this place wasn't really an illusion, then that’s certainly a nice piece of information that I’m going to make good use of,” Harry suddenly showed Voldemort the watch he pulled before.
“A watch, what a stupid…No, there’s no way!” Voldemort’s eyes widened once he saw that the watch hands suddenly started to spin backwards.
“I'm going back five minutes, Tom…This is my ultimate creation, a time-controlling device!” Harry screamed, and soon, all the events that took place started to reverse.
Everything was back to how it was; his parents and everyone he loved were alive, and he wasn’t going to waste this opportunity; he was lucky to be back at the right time before Voldemort exploded the place. His time-reversing watch required lots of magic, but it was all worth it.
“Kill it now, Sirius!” Harry screamed, and his godfather was confused, but in the end, he did it.
The snake was finally gone, which caused Voldemort to look behind him with a confused expression, but he didn’t have time to grieve his snake; he needed to attack his enemies.
“Avada Kedrava!” Harry screamed, and soon, the spell hit Voldemort on the chest.
The dark wizard was going to mock the young man for trying something so foolish, but then he realized something, he was dying, his horcruxes, all of them were gone, he was truly dying and he was scared, he wanted to scream but it was futile, he was already dead and these were his last remains of conscience before he finally fell on the floor, his body lay lifeless as his soul disappeared for the eternity.
But the battle wasn’t over. The order was confused by Harry’s actions, but there was no time to rest; they needed to take care of Voldemort's remaining minions, so the real battle started for them. Now that they've lost their leader, they don’t look as confident as before.
