Chapter #15: A clown show.

Susan couldn’t believe it. Just a few days ago, she was on the verge of catching the person who killed her husband, and now, she was standing in front of an audience while being completely restricted. The trial had ended, and the result was more than obvious.

“Susan Amelia Bones, for conspiracy in the death of your husband, Lucius Malfoy, you have been sentenced to life in Azkaban. Soon you will be transferred to the low security section of the prison…” Susan couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

This trial was too rushed; in less than a week, they managed to make a case, and the evidence against her was stupid, because veritaserum couldn’t be trusted. The accusers created a story about how unhappy she was with her husband because, at some point, she was the only one working while he was unemployed.

They painted her as some kind of mastermind waiting for the moment for her husband to become rich again so she could kill him and take everything from him, apparently, a witness came and claimed that she flirted with random men, the pictures of her meeting with Fudge were also released to the public, the fact it just recently happened didn’t do any good to her image.

Fudge was also the only public witness; he claimed that she tried to seduce him during Lucius' funeral. The bastard surely was going to get the support he needed to get into politics. It seems like he wasn't as dumb as she thought because now he was looking at her with hatred. It took him long, but he finally realized she would never date him.

Soon, the tabloids were spreading the story about her having an affair with Fudge, others were claiming that the supposed baby she was carrying belonged to Fudge, these people didn't even bother to make a test to find that she wasn't pregnant, also, many random old men randomly came out and they spoke to the press claiming they slept with her, they claimed they were unaware that she was married.

Even Harry, who was subjected to this trial when he was still in school, couldn’t stop the mess that was going on. Apparently, some important witnesses spoke privately with the court; they protected the identity of the witnesses as they feared she could order one of her lovers to kill them.

The thing about this trial is that it was about the death of one of the members of the funding families of the country, a group of 28 families, that’s why, and someone who at some point bribed most of them, the death of one of them wasn’t taken lightly even if the culprit was part of a family that was a former member, because yes, the Bones family has been recently removed from its status, and speaking about the families it was important to know that before her sentence could be approved, the 28 heads of those families needed to agree.

She knew she had no hope. The only one who could help her was Draco, but it seemed like he believed the lies; he was looking at her with hatred, and Harry had a serious expression too, so she knew she was fucked, she was alone.

“Well, it’s time to vote, funding members. If you approve the sentence, raise your hands,” the judge said, and soon many hands were in the air.

Soon, the judge started to count; however, he was surprised to see that the Longbottom and the Potter heirs didn't approve the sentence, which only meant one thing: the trial was going to extend.

“Can I have the floor, please?” Harry suddenly asked.

His voice was calm, but it was full of command. This was the man who defeated lord Voldemort, someone who is not easily intimidated. Soon, there were whispers; however, the judge allowed him to speak.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t know if you know this, but…I was raised in the Muggle world,” Harry started.

“So what?” Bianca Zabini, the current head of said family, wasn’t amused.

Susan couldn’t believe it. She was good friends with her aunt and always treated her nicely, and now she was looking like she wanted her dead. She knew she was very close friends with Lucius, but she didn’t expect her to act like this.

“The muggles have a justice system that’s not perfect, that’s a reality, and one would think that a society with magic would find a way to improve the way we serve justice,” Harry’s words were harsh.

He was daring anyone to contradict him and tell him he was wrong, that their perfect-looking society wasn’t as bad as he was painting it to be, but the reality was that he was right.

“This trial has been a farce, orchestrated by who? I don’t know, but there’s one clear thing: that person wants Susan to be locked up, which is funny because the accusers didn’t take into account that Susan Bones had a previous assassination attempt,” Soon whispers started to be heard.

“I don’t see how this is relevant…She could’ve easily orchestrated that assassination attempt, so she wouldn’t look guilty once she got rid of her husband,” Goyle’s father spoke this time.

It was more than obvious that the man held a grudge against Susan because his son died protecting her; even if that was true, it wasn't Susan's fault.

“The context matters, Goyle, and if we overlook facts, then we’re doing nothing but a witch hunt in a literal sense,” Harry hated to be funny in this situation, but he couldn’t stop himself.

However, the elder members didn’t find his words amusing, witch hunts are a reminder of their animosity towards Muggles, and the reason why the feud started, even though no real witch was harmed during those trials, as normal fire is harmless for most witches and wizards.

“Oh, I see that I offended you, but if you analyze the situation, it’s more than obvious that someone is trying to condemn a woman who didn’t have a fair trial, the reason? I don’t know. Who is trying to do it? I have no idea, but with this nonsense of a trial, that's the only obvious conclusion I could get,” Harry smirked.

Soon, he got on his feet and walked towards where Susan was standing. It didn't take long for him to stand behind her. He smiled at the members of the important families and pointed his fingers at them.

“I know that the killer is amongst you people, but I know the coward is not going to take the blame, so I swear in my life that I’m going to find out who is behind all this…So, either you guys reveal who did this, or we consider this a null trial as the whole thing has been based on nothing but rumors, something we thought we were going to overlook during the trials of the last war…” Harry said with a smirk.

He knew that was a low blow. Many of the current members who were in their seats managed to avoid punishment by claiming the accusations of them supporting Voldemort were nothing but rumors, and without concrete evidence, there was no way to condemn everyone. It seems like that has come back to bite them in the arse.

“I can’t believe this…She killed him!” Draco said angrily before he left the place; it's clear he was drunk.

Susan was already sobbing. It was sad to see her like that. He was going to visit Malfoy alongside her later; she and Draco needed to work together to find the real culprit.

“Well, after considering the facts, I would like to apologize in behalf of the court, but as you know, we want justice, so, to amend our mistake, the charges against Miss Bones are null and void, however, while the investigation it’s on its curse, she cannot leave the country,” the judge said with a bitter expression.

Despite the good news, Susan wasn’t happy; it hadn’t been a good week for her.
