Chapter #18: Draco Malfoy, part II.

Draco was walking on the outskirts of Diagon Alley, he was looking for a person, and it was disappointing to see that such a person would live in a place like this, soon, he knocked on a door of a regular apartment and it didn't take long before a man with long blonde hair greeted him, he looked tired, it seems like he had just woken up even if it’s already past evening.

“Draco!” Said the man with a surprised expression.

“Hello father, it’s been a few weeks since the last time I saw you, how are you?” Draco asked before he hugged his father.

The man smelled like liquor, but Draco didn’t show any disdain towards him; in fact, he needed his father’s help for something important, so, annoying him was out of question.

“I’m…I'm Good I think, I’m still trying to find a job but, it’s not easy for someone who never really worked, I seriously underestimated how people with no money lived, I regret saying that people are poor because they wanted to, sometimes it doesn’t matter how much effort you put into something, that doesn’t mean you’re going to succeed,” the man sighed.

He felt pathetic saying all those things to his son, it’s been almost two years since the trials but his accounts are still frozen, and the government is still investigating his assets, and because the dark lord made his home the main headquarters of his operations, they have taken control over the place as they're still finding more evidence of the murders and horrors that took place there.

“Yeah, I get what you mean. Mother is the only one who benefits from this situation, but I’m already tired of living off her,” Draco complained.

His mother was rarely at their apartment, even though her treatment was over and she was back from France; they rarely saw each other these days. Some people say they’ve seen her with Harry Potter in some romantic places. He knew they had become friends after the war, but he didn’t want to believe that his mother would be dating his worst enemy.

“Yeah, I heard the rumors about her and Potter…Good for her, she knows how to play her cards,” Lucius invited him inside, and Draco did as he was told with no hesitation.

“Is Susan at home?” Asked Draco, a bit worried because he didn’t want to see the redhead, he still felt like he was deceived by her.

However, if he has learned something about the experience of being an unemployed with almost no money, is the fact that women aren’t worth it, now he thinks all of them are waste of time, he used to be surrounded by them when he was powerful and now that he was at the bottom of society, they didn’t even pay attention to him, in fact, they mocked his downfall.

However, he knew that soon they’re going to regret doing that, he’s going to be back at the top, and not only him, his father too, even if he was with the woman he wanted to be, he was still his father, and he wasn’t going to abandon him just because of something stupid like the love of a woman. Once he's back at the top, he's going to reject all of them.

“No, she’s at work, I think…I didn’t see her leaving, I…I fought last night with someone I thought was a friend. I needed a favor, but we were also drinking, so I tried to use my wand to make it clear that he had no choice but to give me money…Big mistake, I was disarmed and then defeated by that idiot Goyle…Can you believe it?” Lucius was too ashamed to look at his son.

For him to be beaten by one of the weakest and most idiotic wizards out there was a shock for Draco; he needed to help him not only because it was the right thing to do, but because he was tainting the Malfoy name, their reputation has a long history, and if they keep going like this, all of that will be lost.

“How’s the situation with your accounts? Do you think they’re going to unfreeze them soon?” Asked the younger man with a serious expression.

“No, I only receive a check with enough money to survive every month; however, Susan has told me to save that money, for now, she’s okay with me staying here while she works,” Lucius couldn’t help but wickedly smile.

Draco knew why he was acting like that, his father really knows how to use his charm to get something out of people, in this case he’s freeloading off a young witch who believes is in love, however, he couldn’t hate his father for doing that, after all, he admires him for achieving that at such age, he strives to become a tiny bit of ambitious and cunning as his father is.

“Don’t misunderstand me, there are many good things about her, but…The fact that she lets me stay here while she works twelve-hour shifts, then comes home with a smile and treats me like a king, well…It’s amazing, I’m not going to lie,” Lucius chuckled, and Draco did the same thing.

He had to admit the man knew what he was doing.

“Aren’t you tired of this, father?” Asked Draco with a calm expression.

He saw his father’s face become serious; the answer was obvious.

“Because I am…I’m tired of depending on my mother, that’s why I have an investment idea…It’s a small operation, but I think this has the potential to become bigger,” Draco said with a smirk.

Lucius remained silent. He was desperate, but giving away his small savings wasn’t something easy to do, even if it was his son the person who needed the money.

“Father…You raised me well; you taught me everything I needed to reach my dreams. I have the ambition and the cunning, so I just need one more thing from you…I need you to trust me this time,” Draco soon took his wand out. “I swear I’m not trying to scam you,” suddenly, his wand started to glow.

His body started to glow too, which confirmed that he wasn’t lying.

“What’s this investment about, Draco?” Lucius asked with a curious expression.

“It’s a potion, father,” Draco placed the book that contained Snape’s secret recipes, and the younger wizard flipped the pages until he reached the one with the cool potion he had made a few hours ago.

Lucius started to read, and soon, he saw the notes that Draco had made about the effects of the potion, and the blonde man couldn’t help but open his eyes wide.

“There’s no way you’ve managed to create the Venus potion…God, this brings back so many memories from Hogwarts, I didn't know that fucker Snape managed to get the recipe!” Lucius said with a smirk.

The older wizard knew very well what this potion does to a person. Draco nodded at his father, happy that they were reaching an understanding.

“Yeah, I’m surprised he didn’t try to commercialize it, but…I think he forgot he had this when he left me all his stuff,” Draco said with a smirk.

“Well, the reason is that you get addicted to this stuff that at some point your body only wants this, trust me, we saw that when one of our friends who was violent and insane became so addicted until his body stopped working because he never ate,” Lucius said as he got on his feet.

But that friend never gave them his contact to buy more, so Snape tried to reverse the potion to get the ingredients but then claimed he had no success. He was aware that selling potions was dangerous when they weren’t approved by the ministry; however, the punishment is not severe, if the potion doesn’t directly kill you, so this is their path to get back to the top, and he could finally give Susan the life she deserved. Lucius was on.
