Chapter #20: Insanity.
Draco couldn’t believe it. The plan failed, and now Goyle was dead too. To make things worse, he had to kill the wizards who failed. Right now, he was in one of the many Hangars used to store their brooms, which they use to transport the potions to other countries, and the three bodies of the hit wizards he hired to kill Susan were on the floor.
“Take out the trash, it’s time to get professional help,” Draco said with a bitter look.
He went back to his apartment, went straight to his room, and took a chest under his bed. Inside, inside was the book with Snape's recipes, and in the back, he found an address.
“…A pureblood wizard needs people to do certain jobs; this man is the right person for that, and he’s cheap, just tell him you know me,” Draco read with a smirk.
It was time to plan, so, he contacted the man, a drunkard gambling addict who was mostly living off of a young witch, the man was hesitant to help him but once he told him he was Snape’s godson, he beamed when he told him that Snape recommended him before he died, and he cause Draco was in some way related to Snape, the man was glad to work for him.
He told him about the plan he had to poison Susan Bones. The man was a bit hesitant about that method, but once Draco told him they were going to steal a server’s identity using Polyjuice potion, and to ease his doubts, he gave him a bag full of galleons, which was more than enough for him to live comfortably until the end of his life, and so, after so much planning, the day finally arrived.
Draco was a bit worried about the plan failing because that day Potter started working for his father, and if he figures out that he’s the one behind the murder attempts, he’s completely done; he knows he has no opportunity against him.
That day, his father and Susan were going to her favorite coffee place, and they even invited him, but he declined their invitation, of course. After they parted ways, he went to visit his mother. The older woman hugged him, and he did the same thing.
“Wow, you’re happy today. Did something good happen at work? I’m so proud of what you made of your life, you literally went from rags to riches!” Narcissa told him as they got inside her home.
“Yes, you could say that,” Draco smirked. He was looking at the clock with a smirk.
He knew his father’s schedule. Right now, Susan was with Potter, and because he knew how much she loved her coffee, he was sure she was going to drink it without hesitation. She loves that shit, or so she told him back when she was his nurse; he knew she wouldn't wait for his father to join her, that's how much she loved her coffee.
His father, meanwhile, was having a meeting with a Mexican wizard who was interested in distributing the potions in the U.S. and Latin America. The only thing Draco wanted right now was to enjoy a nice cup of tea made by the woman he appreciated the most, his mother. It took him a while, but he finally forgave her.
“This chamomile tea… It tastes great, mother, no matter how much I try, no one can make it taste this good,” Draco said, unusually happy.
Narcissa was surprised by his attitude. On one hand, she loved being complimented, but on the other hand, it was just chamomile tea; there was nothing out of this world about this. However, she just smiled at her son; seeing him happy made her happy. Soon, they started chatting about their day and how things were.
“Draco…I wanted to tell you something before people start rumors, I’m seeing someone new—” Narcissa couldn’t continue because suddenly someone arrived and knocked on the door.
Draco was annoyed at being interrupted; however, he decided to help his mother, and so he opened the door only to find Ron Weasley outside.
“Weasley,” Draco said with disdain.
However, inside, he was already preparing his reaction; he knew he was about to be notified about Susan’s death, and he knew Potter sent the Weasel, so he decided to play it cool for now. Surprisingly, the redhead was acting calmly; he didn’t lose his composure like he usually did back when they were at Hogwarts.
“Malfoy, I’m sorry to say this, but…Your father is dead,” Ron told him with a serious tone.
Soon, the cup he was using to drink his tea fell on the floor, and Malfoy felt like he didn’t hear too well.
“What?” He questioned with a confused expression.
“Your father…Lucius Malfoy was poisoned a few moments ago. Harry tried to help him with a bezoar he always carried, and he survived for a few more minutes, but when the professionals arrived, it was too late; the poison was too lethal, and he died almost instantly. I'm sorry for your loss,” Ron was being honest this time.
Draco didn’t want to believe what he heard; he collapsed on the floor and started to scream before he grabbed Ron and demanded that the redhead tell him he was lying.
“That wasn’t supposed to happen. Tell me that you’re wrong and he’s not the one dead!” Draco demanded, and Ron sighed.
“It’s the truth, I would never lie about something like that,” Ron said with a serious expression.
There was nothing else to say; his father was dead, and it was his fault. No, it was Susan’s fault. Once he heard how she exchanged coffees, he knew there was something shady behind her actions. Yes, she knew there was poison in her coffee, but instead of getting rid of it or asking for another, or maybe running back to the manor, she decided to give it to his father.
After a quick analysis, he had reached a realization, this was payback for all those days when he had no money and no job while she was supporting him; she wanted to get her money back. Apparently, his father rarely gave her expensive things, maybe she resented him for that.
So, by killing him, she got most of his fortune and, most of all, her freedom. She finally got rid of the man she pretended to love; he was going to make her pay for killing his father. But now that she’s being protected by Potter, that’s going to be difficult.
And that’s why he tried to have her locked up. Luckily, the ministry just needed circumstantial evidence when they dealt with crimes between the members of the 28 families; they believed his story, and soon, she was put in a private cell where she was waiting for her trial. Maybe in the appeals, she could get her freedom back, but he just needed her locked up for a day in the general population, and then one of his girls was going to take care of her.
Yes, today was going to be a good day, she was going to be sent to Azkaban and soon he was going to have a meeting with the Mexican client his father met the day he died, it was time to make a deal again, or at least that's what was supposed to happen if it weren't because Potter had to ruin everything, his power and influence were more than enough to make them drop the charges.
He was so angry that he almost revealed he was the one who started all this mess, so he decided to forget about it for now. He was going to get rid of Susan Bones, even if that's the last thing he does; she’s the cause of all the pain and suffering he’s been going through recently.
First she rejects him and then she kills his father, there was no way he was going to let her live, he won’t be merciful again, but for now as he stood in his mansion in the company of a man who despite looking hadnsome, was clearly ruthless, he had his reputation, his gang doesn’t play around, so, dealing with them can be dangerous but it could be very well rewarded and he was ready to make more money.
“So, we take care of the distribution in the American continent, and you give us exclusivity, what do you say, amigo?” Asked the man with a dangerous smirk.
Draco didn’t have to think twice about this; the operation was going to generate millions, if not billions of galleons. He was ready to shake the man's hand when he heard.
“Draco…Why?!” He looked to see someone he didn’t want to see.
It was Susan, and she was crying.
