Chapter #21: Susan’s courage.
A few minutes ago...
Harry wanted to stop Susan, he knew who that guy Draco was with was, his name is Marco Mendez “the grim”, he’s suspected of leading a big criminal organization that moves not only in the magical American continent but also in the muggle world, and it is said that his methods are brutal, especially with muggles, it seems like he doesn’t even care about the statute of secrecy, however, no one has caught him red-handed doing illegal things until this day.
“Susan…We need to get out of here, these people…They are dangerous. This is not a place for someone like you,” Harry warned her.
“I can’t, Harry…I just need to ask Draco some questions about his behavior during the trial, and I want to apologize if I did something that offended him…His father would’ve been disappointed in me if he knew I did something to his son,” Susan felt guilty.
That was more than enough for Harry; he couldn’t take it anymore. She was a really sweet person, but she needed to stop. Malfoy was many things; innocent was not one of them, and if anyone deserved an apology in this situation, it was her, not him.
“Susan, stop, I think it’s more than obvious that Malfoy is involved in your husband’s death,” Harry finally said with a serious tone. “That’s why he was pushing to get you convicted, you were the scapegoat—” Harry couldn’t continue because he was suddenly slapped.
He was taken aback by that action. He looked at the redhead, who was shocked after realizing what she had done, and now she started to tremble; it was obvious that she was on the verge of tears.
“How dare you…You don’t know him!” Susan tried to defend him.
Harry then grabbed her by her shoulders. He was trying to calm her down so he could tell her everything he knew about the guy Draco was with.
“Susan, listen to me, that man Malfoy is with, he’s not a normal businessman, let me tell you about Marco Mendez…” Harry soon told her everything he knew.
She was finding it hard to believe that Draco could be involved in his father's death, then Harry told her about the potion that was becoming a problem amongst the population of the country and many other parts of Europe, then it clicked for the redhead, all those secret meetings, the magical investment that quickly became a profit for her husband and Draco, it all made sense now, however, she didn’t want to believe it.
“No, I can’t leave, I need to hear it from him!” Susan decided to run to the garden so she could interrupt the meeting and get some answers.
“So, we take care of the distribution in the American continent, and you give us exclusivity, what do you say, amigo?” Asked the man with a dangerous smirk.
Draco didn’t have to think twice about this; the operation was going to generate millions, if not billions. He was ready to shake the man's hand until he heard someone approaching. The guards suddenly got their wands ready until they saw a female figure.
“Draco…Why?!” Draco heard someone he didn’t want to see.
It was Susan, and she was crying.
“Tell me that is not true…Tell me that you’re not making and selling illegal potions…Tell me that you’re not involved in your father’s death!” Susan demanded.
It seems like the redhead finally snapped. The guests were looking at her with shocked expressions, but they were wary; their wands were ready to throw spells at her in case she decided to do something to Draco, who's also known as "the big dragon" in criminal circles.
Surprisingly, Draco had a cold expression right now, it was so cold that it was starting to creep out Susan. He decided to ignore his guards and their warning calls. Soon, the blonde was walking towards the redhead, and he stopped when he was just a few inches from her.
“It’s true…You’re right in almost everything you said, except on my father’s death…That’s your fault, not mine,” he told her without hesitation.
“W-what do you mean…I—” She was stopped.
“That coffee you swapped…You were supposed to be the one to drink it, not him, and if you hadn’t moved that day when Goyle was killed, all of this could’ve been avoided. If only you hadn't swapped the coffees, he would be here…We would all be happy, and who knows? Maybe my parents could’ve gotten back together, but no…You decided to defy me and not die when you were supposed to!” Draco snapped.
Susan, instead of crying, remained standing there with a shocked expression; this was a hard pill to swallow for her.
“Why? I never realized you hated me so much…Why?” She couldn’t believe it.
She always thought they were getting along. She was indeed married to his father, and the age difference made things a bit weird between her and Draco at the start, but she always tried her best to treat him right, and she even thought that at some point they were friends, but it seems like she couldn’t be more wrong; he was just pretending to like her.
“Because I was in love with you before you started dating my father!” Draco was angry.
Susan’s eyes widened. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She never thought of him as more than a friend, but it seemed like he thought differently.
“Draco…I never showed any interest in you. Why would you think I would be interested in you?” She questioned him with a concerned tone.
“It doesn’t matter, the point is that I was in love with you, and you didn’t even give me a chance…I’ve been so frustrated since then, you made me hate my father at some point because he got you and not me…I resented him, and then I decided that if I couldn’t have you, then no one should,” Draco smirked as he prepared for his next move.
She was a bit wary but didn’t back down; she wants to be brave and face the truth.
“You refused to die, and now my father is dead because of you…If you had died instead, we wouldn’t be in this situation,” Draco spat angrily.
“Trust me…I’ve thought of that countless times, but still…It wasn’t my fault Lucius died, you were the one who tried to kill me, it was your work and no one else’s!” Susan snapped back at him, which surprised the people in the meeting.
“She’s fierce, I like her!” Said Marco with a smirk.
Draco on the other hand moved his hand in direction to her face, she was expecting a slap, however, she was surprised to see him cupping her face, and then, he kissed her forehead, something Lucius always did when she felt down, and to say Susan was taken aback would be an understatement, the kiss was soft but she felt nothing and Draco knew it too, so, he soon stopped the kiss.
“Goodbye, Susan,” Draco said with his wand out.
However, soon he was disarmed, and she was now standing behind Harry, who was acting as a barrier between Draco and Susan. Harry was smirking with his wand ready.
“Potter!” Draco said, shocked.
"Potter!" Marco and his people were shocked to hear that name.
Harry Potter's reputation is known across continents. To say they were scared would be an understatement, but this was just the start because suddenly, many armed people appeared, and alongside them, there was a woman with chocolate hair, and she had her wand ready too.
“Granger…Weasley!” Draco was shocked.
“Draco Malfoy, you’re under arrest for being the head of a criminal organization and for the murder of Lucius Malfoy and attempted murder of Susan Bones!” Hermione said with a serious expression.
Draco couldn’t believe it; in the end, he was caught in his own home, the palace he had built to protect himself.
