Chapter #24: Sunset lovers.
Draco had Susan in the position he wanted, he knew this was his end, he was surrounded by Potter and his pals, so, he knew there was no way out of this other than being handcuffed or dead, and he knew he didn't want to spend the rest of his days locked up, so, he knew what he was going to do, he was going to die but he was going to take Susan with him.
“So, this is it…The time has finally come!” The blonde said in a vicious tone.
However, the redhead didn't say anything; she remained in the same position, the fury in her eyes didn’t disappear, and she was sending daggers with her eyes at the man she was supposed to trust, according to Lucius.
“Go ahead, do it, let’s get this over with!” Susan dared him.
Draco was angry at her reaction; he was expecting her to beg and plead, but that didn’t happen. She was ready to face her death; she was aware that he was going to die afterwards if he did that. Harry wanted to save her, but any wrong movement could end her life, so he needed a perfect plan. This was the last outcome he expected.
Lucius hired him to protect her, but neither Harry nor Lucius expected him to protect her from Draco, the son of the man she was married to and the one who paid Harry. He needed to do something; Susan was her priority, but Malfoy was a key part in the climax operation. He needed to face justice; he needed to face the public scrutiny just like Susan did.
“Put that wand down, Malfoy,” Harry ordered him.
“No…I’m going to take her with me, don’t even try to make a move!” He said now his wand pressed further into Susan’s head.
People prepared to attack but Harry urged them to stop, he had an idea but he needed a few minutes, so, he apparated away and Hermione decided to take the lead, the whole department needed Malfoy alive to discover the complete extent of the potion operation, they needed all the names as it was obvious there were important figures of the country involved, he was a valuable asset, killing him would make their investigation harder.
“Look at Potter…It seems like he fell in love, another victim of yours, dear Susan. He’s so pathetic. If only he were a few decades older, you’d fail for him, right? Well, you prefer old men like Fudge, so I feel bad for him!” Draco mocked her.
“Don’t do it, Malfoy, don’t ruin your life…It’s better to be locked than dead!” Hermione tried to stop him.
The blonde looked at Hermione with fury, but he was confident about what he was doing. After all, even if they decide to attack at the same time as him, he could hit Susan and kill her before he gets killed, and he knew Potter wouldn’t let the redhead die so easily, especially since the idiot had a crush on her.
She was his bargaining chip. She would never fall for him, of course, she prefers older wizards, so that was a doomed cause, but still, he knew about the Potter’s need to always save everyone, and he was going to use that to his advantage.
“Put your wands down!” Draco ordered them.
But the people didn’t backtrack, they were tired of listening to him, and he was getting tired of moving around, so he finally made the decision, he was going to do it, fuck the consequences.
“Avada—” He started.
“Draco Abraxas Malfoy!” Draco suddenly stopped once he heard a voice he wasn’t expecting to hear.
He looked at the source behind that voice; it was his mother, and she was standing side by side with Potter. There were tears in her eyes; he had been too focused on himself that he never considered his mother’s reaction.
“M-mother I—” Draco couldn’t continue because soon, a spell pierced his heart.
The attack came from a far distance, all the agents jumped to avoid more attack as they were shocked at the sight of the blonde man spitting blood, Susan and Narcissa screamed and Harry soon ran to grab Susan who was pleading someone to save him, the healers of the secret service tried to do something, but his heart was completely pulverized, suddely some agents came back and they brought the person who sent the spell. It was one of Marco’s men.
“A gift from our boss, fucker!” The man said with a smirk as Draco’s life started to fade slowly.
His mother was pleading for them to save him, but the healer in charge shook her head negatively.
“I’m sorry, Madam Black, there’s nothing I can do; he’s dead,” the healer said, and soon, the wailing started.
Susan looked at the mother crying for her son with a sad expression. All this could’ve been avoided if it weren’t for her; this was her fault, or so she thought. The team was disappointed because Draco’s death was going to complicate the investigation.
“Susan, are you okay?” Asked Harry, glad to see her in one piece.
It seems like he didn’t care too much about the investigation; he was more focused on her well-being, which made her blush.
“No…I don’t feel too good,” she said as she got on her feet.
“Can I do something to help you?” He asked with a concerned expression.
She didn’t say anything, she just got close to him and soon, hugged his neck.
“I’m sorry if I’m misunderstanding things, but…” She didn’t finish; instead, she kissed him on the lips.
To say Harry was surprised was an understatement, but it didn’t take too long for him to kiss her back. There was chaos in the background; there were fires and a lot of smoke from the fight in the air and on the ground, but nothing of that mattered to Harry and Susan, and when the kiss ended, they couldn’t help but smile at each other.
“I’m sorry, Susan…I’m a really bad protector; kissing the person I’m supposed to protect doesn’t make me look good,” Harry said with a weak smile.
The redhead giggled and gave him a short peck on his lips.
“I’ve wanted to do that for so long...” She confessed. “I’m not ashamed of admitting this, Harry…But, I think I’ve fallen for you,” she confessed with a bright smile.
Harry smiled in the same way.
“Me too…Not only was I surprised by how beautiful you turned into, but…You’re a person full of surprises, you’re a nurse, but you can fight too, you’re courageous and fierce, you’re a very interesting woman, Susan and I know this sounds crazy, but I’d like us to get closer,” Harry told her with a determined expression.
“That sounds like a great idea, although I’m a bit scared, it hasn’t been too long since I lost my husband, and I’m afraid that I would lose you too if we get close, that's what happens to all the people I’ve loved in my life,” she said with a sad tone.
Harry cupped her cheeks with a smile.
“Then we’re perfect for each other, Susan. I always get in trouble, but I always manage to make it out alive. You can trust in me to always come back to you,” he declared before kissing one of her cheeks.
She smiled brightly.
“So, now that was settled, I think we should go somewhere else to get you cleaned,” Harry suggested, and she nodded.
With their hands entwined as they stared at the horizon while the sun was setting, the future looked as bright as the sun.
