Chapter #16: It's a date.
Harry was trying not to fall asleep as he watched the sorting ceremony; a random clap or two between each new student was the only thing he did. In the end, he couldn’t manage to find time for himself during the trip on the way to school.
Apparently, someone leaked the information about his physical change, which is why many girls got into his compartment, and others were just staring at him from the outside. There were even guys outside, that's why it was hard to focus on his work, but it was alright, at least he managed to write the basis of his movement.
However, he couldn’t help but think of all the people who were trying to spy on him because Dumbledore was worried, he could turn into a second Voldemort that could fracture the light side of the war, which is something he really found amusing. In different circumstances, he would’ve given up everything just to save the world from Voldemort.
However, if he learned something from his previous life is that prophecies are very much real, so, if Henry was indeed the hero of this world, it was better to leave him and do his thing to kill Voldemort, there was no doubt that Henry was the hero of the wizarding world as he had the scar to prove it which was a relief for Harry because that meant his brother had the horcrux and not him.
And speaking about Henry and Ron, they were in the entrance of the great hall. They were on their knees with their hands behind their heads. Malfoy and his cronies were in the same state; it was hard for him not to chuckle every time he caught sight of them. Snape was by their side too; he kept watch on them so they wouldn't escape from their punishment.
They made their houses lose one hundred points, so they weren’t going to be the most popular people in the next few weeks. Harry knew very well that, because in his first year, they lost a lot of points after Malfoy tried to frame them, it was nice to be on the non-losing side for once.
Still, the look Snape was giving him meant that he had a crush on him, which was a very disturbing thought. He could also be angry because they couldn’t find anything to punish him, like Malfoy and his brother, the days in which he’s done dirty by the staff are done for Harry Dursley.
Then he caught sight of Hermione, who was sitting in front of him. She was looking with embarrassment at her friends, just like Ginny, then the muggleborn gave him a weak smile, and he couldn’t help but smile back.
“Harry… I’d like to apologize for my friends’ behavior,” she sighed.
Harry was surprised by her words.
“You don’t have to, Hermione… There’s nothing to blame you for; it was those two, and in fact, I’m not angry at them either. What they did amused me; in fact, seeing them like that is something that brings a lot of joy to my heart,” he declared without a hint of shame.
Hermione was taken aback by his attitude; it was like he enjoyed seeing her friends suffer. However, knowing how bad they’d treat him throughout the years, she couldn’t find it in herself to blame him.
“I can’t say I blame you… They’ve been nothing but jerks towards you. I’ve tried to stop them, but unless I use the Imperius curse on them, there’s nothing I can do to fully stop them!” She told him with a weak smile.
“Well, knowing that you at least tried to stop them lowers a little the resentment I harbored towards you,” he declared with a grin.
Hermione thought he was joking, but no, it seems like they’d hurt him more than she had expected. She now regretted not doing more to avoid that.
“Anyway… I know there’s not much I can do or say to make things better for you, but… I would like to get to know you better, that’s if you don’t mind?” She asked hopefully.
However, Harry was easily able to see through the ruse; he didn’t even need to read her mind to know that. After all, she was one of Dumbledore’s appointed spies. The order has given the younger members tasks like these to prove themselves, so they could climb the ranks and get assigned harder and more dangerous missions.
“Like a date?” He asked with a tone full of confidence.
And he said it loud enough so everyone around them could see where this was going as they now became the center of attention. Seeing Hermione’s embarrassed expression was worth a million galleons. Getting something from him wasn’t going to be as easy as she thought it would be.
“Y-yes… A date,” she told him with a soft smile.
“Sure, I’d love that… Why don’t we have a walk through the lake, and then we can have a picnic there? Tomorrow during supper sounds great for me,” he told her with a calm tone.
Hermione was surprised by how smoothly he said those words. It seemed like her act was falling apart, and she somehow had zero complaints about it.
“That sounds great, let me—” she told him as she grabbed a paper with her weekly schedule.
He couldn’t help but grin. She was the same in every universe, despite their class schedules being given to them tomorrow; she already had her schedule for the year, which was impressive because she had lots of advanced classes. However, her nervousness made her forget about something.
“Uh, Hermione? I think the supper is at the same time for everyone,” he couldn’t help but tell her with a grin.
She then looked at him with a plain expression and blushed.
“Yes… Oh, Merlin, how could I forget that?!” She wondered with a nervous tone.
Ginny whispered something in her ear, and she looked shocked before she calmed herself.
“Don’t worry, I’ll find you at the entrance of the great hall, okay?” He proposed, and she nodded. “Still, I don’t think that if we want to get to know each other better, that would be enough; we can talk and walk together back to our dorms after this, don’t you think?” He asked with a soft smile.
She blushed and nodded.
“You know what? That sounds like a great idea, after all, Henry and Ron will be in detention most of their free time for a month,” she said, with a more relaxed tone, and Harry smiled.
“Let’s hope that helps them not to cause a mess in the Hogwarts Express again,” Harry sighed.
“Harry, I would love to say that I'm hoping for the same, but I lost hope a long time ago about those two learning their lesson,” she sighed.
Before Harry could tell her something else, it was announced that the sorting ended, and so, now it was time for dinner, and if there was something Harry missed the most about Hogwarts, it was the food; regardless of the universe, the food was as delicious as always.
After that, everything was like a blur for the dark-haired wizard, he and Hermione went together to the dorm, but then they parted ways as she had her head girl duties, he forgot about that and she didn’t remind him, but it was alright, he was too tired to continue the conversation, they just spoke about vague things like the weather and their favorite classes.
However, Harry knew that this was just the start, she was going to be more inquisitive once they get closer and he couldn’t wait for it, he always wanted to be in a spy-like movie, so, this experience was very fun for him, and also, knowing that Dumbledore saw him as a threat dangerous enough to people to spy on him made him very happy.
