Chapter #34: Welcome to the jungle.
Harry smirked as he saw everyone in the castle talking about the article of his performance in the last Quidditch match, and to make things more interesting, it seemed like the exclusive pictures and interview he did for Rita were going to be published in this week’s Witch Weekly.
Not a bad idea, it was good to reach out to other audiences, of course, he's well aware that this is going to get him lots of female attention, and he was more than okay with that situation.
The next few days were kind of dull for Harry. He spent the whole week in the castle, and he had his weekly defense class, which focused on the theory, so he didn’t have time to show off.
Which was good, no matter how good it felt to humiliate people like Henry or Malfoy, he still didn’t want to get people’s attention by showing his strength, he knew he should be careful though, he just did the bare minimum and the order wanted him to join already, of course, the invitation was nothing but an effort to put him under control like a dangerous dog.
And speaking about dogs, he can only dream about calming himself with a song just like Fluffy, Hagrid’s Cerberus, but in reality that wasn’t enough, Harry needed constant stimulation, he was just hoping things would go well when he visits the order's headquarters, it’s true that he doesn’t see these version of the Potters as his family but still, he couldn't help but feel disappointed about them, what they did to the Harry of this universe was fucked up.
You don’t abandon a family member and give him a hellish life; at least try to secretly look after him, because if your purpose is for the monster not to unleash his ire against the world, abandoning him with people who hate him is only going to speed up the process.
He managed to meet and speak with his parents through the resurrection stone back in his original universe. James and Lily Potter were so much different in his universe; they were loving, caring, and they gave everything they could for him, even their lives. That’s why Harry doesn’t want to think of the Potters of this universe as his real family because it would feel like betraying his real parents' sacrifice.
The next weekend finally arrived, there was no Quidditch match scheduled, and he didn’t have any appointment with his lovers, and there was a reason for it: he was going to the order headquarters. He arrived at Dumbledore’s office, and Professor Tonks and Hermione were already waiting for him.
“Hi, I’m sorry if I’m late,” Harry said, actually sounding not-so-sorry.
“It’s quite all right, Harry, you’re just in time, shall we get going?” Asked Dumbledore with a small smile.
Harry nodded, and soon, they traveled through the floo network, and they arrived in the living room of a nice house.
“Welcome to Potter’s manor, Harry,” Dumbledore told him with an amused expression.
So this was the place, Harry never got to be here in his universe, or well, he didn’t when he already was old enough to appreciate it, he knew he lived here until Voldemort’s attack, the place turned into dust, only he and his parents bodies remained after the attack, however, Harry didn’t have too much time to take a look at the place because there was suddenly a flash and he avoided it by falling back, matrix style.
“Hey, be careful with that!” Harry said, annoyed.
He looked up to see Sirius, he was the one who shot that spell, it was so weird seeing his godfather looking at him with a mix of hatred and envy, it’s clear that the fact that Fleur preferred him got under his skin, it makes sense, womanizers think all women want them and when that doesn’t happen they become obsessed to prove he should be chosen and not rejected.
Suddenly, his parents and Remus appeared, and they looked at Sirius with annoyed expressions. They were about to scold him when Harry decided to speak up for himself; he didn’t want their pity.
“Let me guess, you used to wet your bed when you were growing up, and you didn’t receive your mother’s attention and that’s why you act like this, to prove to the ghostly figure of the mother that you supposedly hate that you’re in fact, worthy of her love,” Harry said as he got back on his feet.
He started to dust himself.
“What the—” Sirius, for the first time in ages, felt embarrassed.
His friends looked at him with amused expressions. He was looking for support from them, but they didn’t say anything, and Sirius couldn’t deny that there was some truth behind what Harry said.
“You’re lucky you didn’t damage my clothes, they were a gift from a special friend,” Harry said, annoyed.
Yes, the clothes he was wearing were a gift from Narcissa, the finest from Madam Malkin.
“Are you okay, Harry?” Asked Hermione with a worried expression. “You’re a more experienced wizard, Sirius. Why did you attack him?!” Hermione asked, annoyed.
Sirius was still dumbstruck by Harry’s words. He was wondering if his mother would approve of this behavior, when he realized what he was doing, he quickly shook his thoughts off.
“Yeah, bed wetter, relax,” Remus mocked him, which caused Sirius to shoot him an annoyed look.
James had a hard time suppressing his laughter while Lily was completely smiling.
“Well, if he’s going to join the order, he needs to always be prepared to attack, it's what Moody says, you know? Constant vigilance and all that bullshit,” Sirius tried to look like a very logical person.
However, before anyone could say anything, Fleur appeared.
“Harry, you’re here!” She said before running past Sirius, she even hit his shoulder and didn’t even care about apologizing.
Harry smiled at the sight of the French witch.
“Hey, pretty flower,” Harry said happily before they kissed their cheeks.
Sirius was looking at the scene with annoyance. Hermione felt a bit conflicted right now, she didn't know if she wanted to be Harry or Fleur at this moment, and soon, the Potters and Remus realized why he was acting like a jerk, they could only sigh at the pathetic way their best friend was behaving.
“Very well, now that most of the commanders are present, it’s time to introduce our new members,” Dumbledore decided to get into business.
He was a busy man after all.
“First, we have someone we already know; she has done work for me, and I can say that I’m more than satisfied with her work. With her dueling skills and knowledge, she can be a great asset to our organization… Let's welcome Hermione Granger,” everyone clapped.
Harry just looked at them with interest. It seems like the little information Hermione was able to get from him was enough to promote her to officer.
“Then, we have someone who has surprised us these past few weeks. He didn’t stand out for years, but there’s one clear thing: from what his teachers told me, I can safely say that he’s strong, Harry Dursley.” Dumbledore now looked at Harry.
Only Fleur clapped this time, but he didn’t care; he didn’t come here to make friends, he was more like a spy, but the information was for himself, not to sell it to anyone else, because the only person who would want this information aside from him was Voldemort, and he needed that bastard gone as soon as possible, he wasn't going to help him no matter how much he disliked the Potters.
“So… What do you guys do?” Harry finally asked with a curious expression.
As soon as they get into business, he can start to collect information that could serve his purposes. They probably think he’s useless, but that’s alright, that’s the perfect façade he needs to infiltrate. He couldn't deny that this was fun; he always loved working as an undercover agent back in his original universe.
