Chapter #20: Corruption.
Meanwhile, Lucius Malfoy was brought to a luxurious manor by the people who saved him. He didn’t know who they were or what they were planning to do with him, but at least he wasn’t going to spend the rest of his days in Azkaban.
“Thank you for saving me and all that crap, but… Who the fuck are you lot?” Asked Lucius, a bit annoyed.
If there was one thing he hated, it would be surprises; he hated dealing with mysterious people, and he needed quick and well-chewed answers.
“Very well, first of all, you have to know the name of our organization, we call ourselves Death Eaters, and we want to clean our world out of the same scum you've been cleaning and more,” said a mysterious man whose voice Lucius couldn’t help but recognize.
“Goyle, is that you?!” Asked Lucius, having a hard time believing he was in this situation.
Suddenly, the man removed his mask, and there it was, the person Lucius thought was behind the mask; it was Gerry Goyle, one of the dumbest people Lucius knew. He was a pureblood of the terrible kind; however, never had Lucius thought he would find a redeeming quality behind that scum, and yet, he had been saved by him and his group.
“Goyle, you bastard… You had this club very well hidden. Why didn’t you tell me about your organization? If we shared the same goals, I would've joined ages ago,” Lucius felt insulted.
He should be part of this; these are his people, he was with people who thought like him, or so they claimed to be on his side.
“Because you always portrayed yourself as some kind of morally superior person, in a nutshell, we thought you were too boring for our organization,” Gerry laughed.
“You imbecile…” Lucius gritted his teeth.
“Come on, it’s just a joke,” Gerry fakely apologized. “Let’s leave everything in the past, Lucius, and start anew as the new member of our respectable organization, as I said before… We want to clean our world in the same way you've been doing,” the man smiled grimly.
Lucius wasn’t amused, but he couldn’t stop himself from considering joining this organization. What other choice did he have? It was either this or being captured again and that's the last thing he wanted.
Meanwhile, at the Potter-Black household.
The day has been a mess, Lucius Malfoy is free and well, and it’s all his fault, or at least Harry can’t help but feel that this is his fault. When he arrived home, he saw Bellatrix sleeping on the couch with the TV on. He couldn’t help but smile at the sight.
She was caressing her belly; their baby was growing well. He couldn’t help but feel bitter; he was supposed to protect them from danger, and yet, roaming freely in the world, there was the psycho who tried to kill her. Had Lucius succeeded, Bella and the baby would’ve been gone.
It’s been six months, and even though she already remembered her sisters and her family, she still couldn’t remember him; that’s something that has worried Harry, so he had already gotten used to the idea of Bella never fully remembering him; however, instead of feeling sad.
He decided to move on and instead, he was now trying to get closer with this Bellatrix, no matter the circumstances he knew he wanted to be with her, he’s going to miss the fiery strong and ruthless Bellatrix he fell in love with, but she was still the same at heart, he couldn’t give up on her, not yet just when they were starting to fall for each other before the incident.
“Oh,” Harry heard her say. “Harry, is that you?” She asked with a calm tone.
Bellatrix was waking up. She rubbed her eyes, and slowly, she gained her vision, and then she saw Harry resting close to her.
“Yes, I’m here, Bella, I’m back from the office,” Harry said with a disappointed tone.
She was about to kiss him, but then she stopped herself. She didn’t know why, but she felt like she needed to do that. They were indeed supposed to be a married couple, but she doesn’t remember ever loving him, and yet, her body was telling her to do that.
Right now, they live together because of their duty as husband and wife; however, nothing has happened between them, and they’re more like good friends. She can’t deny that she likes Harry as a person; it’s weird to be married to someone as young and handsome as he is.
She knows she shouldn’t, but he’s starting to catch her attention, he was already handsome and smart, so, if it wasn’t for his age she would’ve fallen for him a long time ago, she couldn’t help but feel surprised about her past-self developing feelings towards him, she couldn’t believe it but her sister Narcissa insisted that was the case.
She decided to believe her for now, they needed to do right if they wanted their child to have a loving family, she needed for the baby to come already though, she wanted to go back to the Auror forces, she didn’t know why but she felt like she should be out there fighting crime, it was a call that didn’t care about her memory loss, fighting crime was a natural part of her.
“How was work?” Asked Bella, trying to ease the tension.
“Difficult… Lucius Malfoy escaped, well, he was rescued by a group of strange people in masks and tunics!" Harry said with a weak tone.
Bellatrix knew he felt guilty because of what happened to her, and no matter how many times she had told him that it was alright, he was still trying to find a way to compensate her for what he had done. After all, it happened during his free day; it was normal for him to feel guilty.
“No way… I can’t believe it,” Bellatrix was disappointed. “Why didn’t they apply the death penalty? Had they done that, we wouldn’t be dealing with this situation!” Bellatrix complained.
Harry was surprised to see her acting like that. It was like, for a very brief moment, she got back to her normal self; however, he decided not to get too hopeful about it.
“I know, that’s what I said, if someone deserved the dementor’s kiss, it was him. Sadly, this is still a corrupt system, the powerful protect each other not with wands but with actions,” Harry sighed.
Bellatrix was about to say something else; however, their conversation was interrupted by the arrival of a patronus that he knew very well, who was the caster. He opened the message, and his eyes widened. It was Molly Weasley’s voice.
“Harry, someone attacked Ron… He’s at St. Mungo’s, they say he could die!” The older redhead’s voice was desperate and tragic.
Harry couldn’t help but gulp after hearing those words. He didn’t need evidence; he knew it very well. He knew that the people behind the attack were the same ones who saved Lucius; now they were attacking Aurors. Harry decided to send Molly a message with a Patronus.
“Bella, I need you to stay here. Aurors are going to watch all over you and the baby from now on,” Harry said as he got on his feet.
“Harry, what’s going on?” She asked, completely worried.
“There was an attack against Ron, and I’m sure he’s not going to be the last. Lucius Malfoy and his friends are now targeting the people who tried to make him face justice.” Harry got on his feet.
Soon, he grabbed the things he needed, and when the Aurors arrived, Harry decided to finally visit his best friend.
