Chapter #64: An important talk.
It’s been a couple of hours since the attack and, consequently, the investigations from the Auror department and the interview with the media, but now it was time to answer questions. After having sex with Rita, Harry arrived with a calm expression, and everyone was looking at him expectantly.
Lily ran as fast as she could and decided to hug him. Harry, however, didn’t hug her back, and she was confused; however, she quickly remembered the current state of their relationship and backed off.
“I’m sorry, Mrs. Potter—I mean… Mother.” It felt weird for Harry to say that.
However, this was a good starting point.
“Let me ask everyone a question… Do you still feel hatred and fear towards me? I want you to answer sincerely,” Harry asked with a calm tone.
Soon, everyone except his lovers looked at each other before they shook their heads; even Henry seemed a bit calmer, and Harry could swear that there was a bit of guilt written over his face.
“Very well, I guess that confirms my theory,” he then took the collar Lily was wearing all the time, the one that was hit with the killing curse.
Everyone looked at him with interested expressions.
“You used to love that collar when you were a baby, and then… The night of the attack came, and it changed everything between you and the family,” Lily said sadly.
“I know… I took a deep look into my memories, and I saw everything: how you gave me up to the Dursleys, the fear you felt towards me,” Harry sighed. “And this is the reason why all of you felt nothing but hatred towards me,” Harry told them with a serious tone.
That caught their attention.
“What do you mean?” James asked, surprised.
“The night of the attack… I guess, one piece of Voldemort’s soul became attached to this thing that I used to love, and then… It infected everyone close to us,” Harry told them with a serious tone.
“Do you mean that… That thing was somewhat sentient?” James asked, worried.
“Yes… I think so; it’s crazy, I know, but it’s obvious that the moment it was destroyed, you stopped feeling hatred towards me,” Harry told them with a calm tone.
He then placed the collar on the desk.
“I can accept that explanation,” Lily grabbed the thing.
“It’s just a theory though; I have no proof. The only evidence I have to think that's what happened is the fact you don’t hate me anymore, of course… Unless you’re lying, which I doubt, because Henry truly hated me before and he doesn’t seem to do so anymore,” Harry said with a serious tone.
Then he got on his feet.
“I know what all of you are thinking. It was the collar’s fault, the fact all of you treated me like crap and abandoned me with the Dursleys, it was the cursed collar’s fault, and that might be true; however…” Harry took a moment to calm down.
He didn’t want to lose his composure.
“It’s hard for me to forget about it, you know? I know it sucks to blame you for something you were manipulated by a cursed object to do, but I’m human… In this situation, it’s hard for me to just turn around and be the better person,” he sighed as he sat back.
In the past, he would’ve done that; he would’ve forgave them, and they would’ve moved on, but these days he can’t do that, not after being part of the Auror forces, where he faced monsters who committed horrible crimes. Harry had to kill a lot of them instead of making them pay with jail time.
“I—I can understand the way you think, and it’s going to be hard, but we’re going to try everything in our power so one day you can forgive us.” Lily didn’t argue, and that’s something Harry appreciated.
He smiled weakly at her.
“You ran and put yourself between me and a killing curse… That’s something I appreciate, and I want you to know that I’m thankful for what you've done,” Harry was being sincere right now.
“How could I not? Even if I was blinded by the hatred caused by that object… There was still an instinct inside me, the instinct to protect you,” she confessed, and Harry nodded.
“Yes… A mother’s love, that’s a very dangerous and powerful type of magic,” he then sighed.
Harry suddenly got on his feet.
“Well, I guess I better get going; there is some unfinished business I need to take care of,” Harry confessed.
“Why don’t you stay here? We can arrange your room to how it used to be; all your things are still there, it just needs a bit of cleaning,” Lily didn’t want him to leave; that was something obvious.
However, Harry, on the other hand, felt sick; he didn’t want to be here any longer. This wasn’t his family; the original Harry of this universe was gone. He made a ritual to exchange their lives; he shouldn’t be the one receiving those apologies and being promised a better life from the people that caused him so much pain.
However, he couldn’t tell them all those things; no one would believe that’s what happened, so it seems like Harry is now condemned to go receive all that even if he’s not the right person that should be in that position.
“I’m grateful for your offer but… I think it's still too early for me,” he told her with a sad smile.
Lily didn’t want to give up, but then she backed off, realizing that she was being too insistent. The last thing she wanted was to scare him away.
“I’m still surprised by that show of strength you demonstrated, Harry… Why have you never shown those abilities in school before?” Dumbledore asked, surprised.
The answer was simple: he wasn’t the original Harry Potter of this universe; thus, there was no strength to show back then.
“Easy… I didn’t want to give my enemies information about my abilities; it was better for me to keep my powers a secret. Had I shown only a bit of strength then you guys would’ve executed me without hesitation,” he stopped. “I don’t want to brag, but I could take down a lot of you guys; however, if you work together, that’s almost an impossible feat,” he clarified, and they nodded.
Even though he sounded a bit arrogant, after that show of strength, it was obvious that he was more than capable of what he was claiming.
“So… What do we do with Voldemort?” Asked Sirius.
That was an important question; the logistics behind that are going to be hell.
“Don’t worry, Rita’s article is going to cause quite the stir in the ministry, we’re soon going to hear from our dear minister, but don’t worry, he won’t run away from such an easy political win, he just has to proclaim to hate Voldemort and then, I’m throwing him on the veil,” Harry declared with a calculated tone.
“The veil?” Many younger members of the order asked, confused.
Harry remembered that the attack on the Ministry didn’t take place in this universe, so, of course, they had no idea of the Department of Mysteries.
“Let’s just say that it’s a place in the Department of Mysteries where they study death. You should be careful though; if you fall through the veil, then you die,” he said as he looked at Sirius.
He couldn’t help but think of the version of his godfather and became nostalgic; it was annoying to differentiate between the two versions, but there was nothing he could do about it.
