Chapter #19: An interesting proposal.
Harry was working tirelessly on the new projects that the civilization was planning to build; however, he was soon interrupted when an owl arrived with a letter. It was interesting, even though they had computers and phones to communicate, magical people still used means like owls to communicate; he couldn’t help but smirk; that sure brought a lot of memories from better days.
“Thank you, buddy,” Harry said as he exchanged some bacon pieces for the letter the owl was carrying. “There’s more where that came from.” Harry grabbed a small plate and put it close to the owl.
Then he opened the letter and his eyes widened.
“A marriage proposal?” He asked, surprised.
He grabbed his things and soon visited the house of the family of the bride that he supposedly needed to marry according to an old proposal. He arrived and knocked calmly; he was glad to see that the house was rebuilt, and then the door was opened; the man he wanted to see was there; it was Cyrus Greengrass.
“Harry… I see that you got my letter!” The man said with a smirk.
Harry couldn’t believe he would be so nonchalant about this; it was his daughter, the one who was going to get married to him if they went through this.
“Cyrus… Let’s cut the chase… What’s going on?” Harry asked, not so amused.
“That my friend is a proposal that was signed by our families two centuries ago, it seems like they were really close and they wanted to celebrate that by joining our families, but that could only happen, once the right time comes, when there’s a single Potter and Greengrass heir of the opposite gender, which hadn’t happened because there has been nothing but males on the two families since then,” the man served some firewhisky and handed it to Harry.
The emerald-eyed wizard took all the drink at once.
“Cyrus… I don’t think you’re understanding this; a marriage proposal, that’s a crazy and outdated thing,” Harry couldn’t believe it.
“Well, it doesn’t matter that our society is now mixed with the Muggle one; old traditions are still part of our society. I don’t know why you’re so against this union,” the older man was a bit worried.
“Don’t misunderstand me, any man would be fortunate enough to marry Daphne, but a marriage should be something done out of love. I don’t want to end up being miserable or making another person miserable,” Harry sighed as he sat on the couch.
Now that caught Cyrus’ attention.
“So, you’re willing to do it if there’s love involved?” Asked the older man with an interested expression.
Harry remained silent for a while; he didn’t know where this was going.
“Yeah, I guess,” Harry answered calmly.
Cyrus then smiled.
“Well, you’re in luck then… Daphne, please join us,” he said, and soon, Daphne, who was wearing a white comfortable dress, entered and joined them.
She smiled at the sight.
“Mr. Potter,” she said happily.
Then she kissed one of his cheeks, and he did the same to hers.
“Had I known you were coming, I would’ve dressed more properly,” she said with a hint of embarrassment.
“No, no, it’s alright, Miss Greengrass. I just came here to discuss this; I don’t know if you’re aware of it,” Harry said with a worried tone.
“Oh… Yes, I’m more than aware of that,” she answered with a flushed expression.
“Look, this is crazy; we should break the compromise. After all, it won’t be good for you to marry someone as old as me, and also… I have multiple lovers that I plan to keep on seeing,” he declared with a serious tone.
If that doesn’t work, then he doesn’t know what else to do to avoid this.
“I know about your lovers, Mr. Potter, and I don’t care,” she stated with a serious tone.
Was he dreaming? Harry couldn’t help but wonder.
“What the—That doesn’t make any sense,” he said, surprised.
She then walked slowly towards him and grabbed his hands.
“I think I should leave you two to discuss this situation,” Cyrus decided to run, and Harry was now left alone with Daphne.
There was an awkward silence until she got close to him.
“Harry… Can I call you Harry, right?” She asked with a calm tone, and Harry nodded. “Harry, I’m in love with you,” she declared, and Harry’s eyes widened.
“What are you saying, Daphne? We’ve just met a month ago,” Harry was shocked to hear that, to say the least; there was no way someone would fall in love too easily.
“I know… But I also know that’s more than enough time to know that I’m in love with you, Harry,” she stood firmly to her beliefs. “I don’t want any other man in my life than you; I know it deep in my heart that the man I want in my life is you... I actually had a huge crush on you during our school days,” her words were shocking to say the least.
Harry couldn’t find a way to escape from this situation; however, there was an interesting question: did he really want to escape from this situation? The reality was that Harry was as much attracted to her as she was to him; she was stunning, there was no doubt about it.
She was smart and pleasant to be with, or at least that’s the conclusion he came up with after spending time with her since she was depetrified.
“Listen, Daphne… I think you’re beautiful and smart, and any man would be fortunate to be with you, even me; however, there can’t be anything between us because I like the way my life is, I like having fun with other people, and I think it’s too early for me for marriage,” he declared, and she nodded.
However, her smile never disappeared.
“So, you find me attractive, uh?” She said with a satisfied smile.
“Of course I do; any man with eyes would do, trust me, you’re a dream woman,” Harry added with a sincere smile.
Daphne was more than satisfied.
“Lovers,” she then said something that surprised him.
“What?” He asked with an arched brow.
“We can be lovers, right?” She proposed as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
Harry now became worried and started to look around; he didn’t want Cyrus to hear any of that, or he was going to kill him.
“Do you want to be lovers?” He asked with a calm tone.
“I wanted to get married to you, Harry… I thought that proposal was going to be enough to convince you, but I realized that I might have been more selfish than I wish I was,” she sighed. “I wanted to be your wife, but it’s not fair for the other ladies you’re messing with; however, if they can be your lovers, I feel like I want the same,” she declared with zero shame, and Harry was taken aback by her attitude.
However, the thought of having Daphne as his lover was turning him a lot, he didn’t want to lose his composure, so, he remained calm, however, in the end she did something that surprised him even more, she decided to jump at his arms and kiss him and Harry didn’t have the strength to push her away, in fact, he liked the kiss so much that he deepened it, it was the most interesting thing he's had in a long time.
