Chapter #21: Where are you now?

Harry didn’t know what to do with Ron; it was hard to trust him after what he and Hermione did. However, he had one piece of information that he needed, and that was Hermione’s location. He wasn’t planning on attacking them; he just wanted to speak with her and ask her why she abandoned him.

If she truly was happy being away from him and now apparently being with Snape, then there was nothing he could do; he was more than ready to give up on her, but he needed answers; answers that only she give him, and that was the most important thing and also, he needed to make sure Hermione and the rest didn’t become a threat to this new world they were creating.

“Give the boys and their mother new clothes, give them food too, and also, build a house for them,” Harry told one of the wizards that worked for him.

They nodded, and soon they took the muggles away, leaving Ron with Harry. The redhead was nervous; being alone with Harry was a very difficult experience to say the least.

“Ron… It’s hard for me to believe your words; after all, you abandoned Hermione and me during the hunt,” Harry sighed.

“But that was the locket!” Ron tried to defend himself.

“I know, but… Even if the locket made you act, deep inside you had those thoughts and desires; you wanted to abandon us, but you weren’t brave enough to do it on your own; instead, the locket had to do it for you,” Harry sighed.

Daphne suddenly walked a step.

“Harry… If you feel like it, I can check out his memories to see if he’s lying or not… Of course, it’s not very reliable, as Weasley could have perfect control of his memories, but I can try,” Daphne wanted to feel useful.

Harry looked at her with a smile; it was nice to have people like her on his side that knew how to read minds.

“Go ahead,” Harry encouraged the blonde.

“Wait—” Ron didn’t have time to react, and soon, his memories were being looked at; the blonde was trying to find out if he was telling the truth or not.

Ron was very nervous; she was going to find that he was just pretending and that everything was a lie, and then, when she finally finished, she looked at Harry with a calm expression.

“So… What’s your conclusion, Daphne?” Asked Harry with an interested tone.

Ron was very nervous; he knew what was coming, and there was no way for him to escape, well, at least he was away from Hermione and the rest. He could hope that Harry would be merciful and just let him live here even if he didn’t get any benefits.

“Either he’s a master of the mind, or he’s telling the truth.” Daphne’s words shocked both Harry and Ron.

He couldn’t believe what he was wearing; he just wished that his memories were convincing enough for Daphne not to notice the truth, and it seemed like it worked; however, he remained calm; he didn’t want to arouse suspicions.

“See… I told you?” Ron said with an offended tone.

If he played his cards right, he could get something out of this situation.

“I still don’t trust you; after all, memories can be altered; however, I know you well, Ron. I know that you never mastered the mind arts as Snape used to call them,” Harry sighed. “Fine, you can stay in our city, but there are some rules that you need to accept and a vow that you need to make,” Harry told him with a serious tone.

“Yeah… I’ll do anything you ask me to do,” Ron was truly desperate.

Harry could only sigh.

“Before you leave, I need the location of your former city,” Harry asked him with a calm tone.

However, Ron could feel that his former best friend was desperate to get that information; if he wanted to get something out of it, that information could help him achieve that. However, recovering Harry’s trust was more important for his plans for the moment, and who knows? Maybe if he tells him the location, he’ll attack them in his place, and that could count as his own revenge.

“Harry, I want you to know that I want to earn your trust back, so I’m giving you this information without asking for anything in return,” Ron said with a calm tone.

Soon he gave Harry the location.

“If you don’t find the place, I can take us there by apparition,” Ron told him with a calm tone.

“I’ll take that into consideration,” Harry said honestly. “Very well, Ron, it seems like you had a rough day and a worse journey; I think you should join your friends.” That meant that the conversation was over.

“Harry, wait,” Ron needed to talk to him more.

“Yes?” The emerald-eyed wizard asked with a serious expression.

“I was being honest earlier when I said that I wanted to earn your trust back. I don’t care what I have to do; I’m going to try my best,” Ron declared with a serious expression.

Harry couldn’t help but sigh.

“It’s going to be a long journey Ron, but you should focus on yourself, it seems like you learned your lesson back in your kingdom, there’s more in life than having fun, you can't defeat your enemies if you’re having fun all the time, you should study one of the careers that we have in the city and then join our security forces, we’re always in need of more wizards,” Harry told him with a serious tone.

There was a silence, but it wasn’t an uncomfortable one.

“I—I’ll think about it,” the redhead promised.

“Well, we have work to do; please take Ron with his friends,” Harry insisted. “See you later, Ron,” Harry said with a calm tone.

Ron nodded, and soon he was escorted back with Jennifer and the kids. Meanwhile, Harry decided to open a broom closet where there was his personal broom, a Firebolt.

“Guys… It’s time; we have the location,” Harry said with a serious tone.

“Are you sure you want to go, Harry? We can send a scouting team,” Luna said, a bit worried.

“If you want to join me, you’re welcome; I’m sure that having more of you with me will convince Hermione to stop with the nonsense and come back to us,” Harry said with a calm tone. “I’m going because I want to; there’s no other reason for me to do it,” Harry told them with a smirk.

They smiled too, and some of his friends decided to grab their brooms and go with him, Susan decided to stay as she wasn’t close to Hermione and Hannah too, after all, they needed to take care of things while the rest were gone and soon, the journey started, they followed Ron’s instructions and surprisingly, less than thirty minutes later they found the location, however, there was no sight of the city.

“There’s nothing here… Did Ron lie to us?” Asked Ginny with a serious tone.

“No… I think the place is hidden under the Fidelius charm, very smart, Hermione,” Harry said with a serious tone.

But he wasn’t going to easily give up; he just needed to have a conversation with her, and if Hermione said that she didn’t want to see him again, then he was going to respect her decision.
