Chapter #27: A farewell to kings.

Snape was rubbing Hermione’s feet when the main door was opened. The three council members were there, and they were smiling because they weren’t alone; a huge mob was coming along with them.

“What the…? What’s the meaning of this, guys?” Hermione asked with a worried tone.

“We’ve decided that we’re not going to follow your orders anymore… Granger,” John said in a serious tone.

“Capture her,” Frank ordered, and Snape decided to get his wand ready.

“Snape… This doesn’t concern you; don’t worry, you’re fine. We’re just going to get rid of Miss Know-It-All,” Arnold said with a wicked smirk.

“Only under my corpse,” Snape said, getting ready to fight.

“No… Severus, let them capture me; it’s not worth fighting them. You need to survive,” Hermione tried to stop the older wizard.

“Hermione… You’re a good person… Too good for this world sometimes; that’s why you should be protected. The future needs people like you, not rotten bastards like myself,” Snape said with a serious tone.

Hermione felt bad about this situation. She felt guilty; she should’ve realized that her decisions would lead to this. Now she realized why leaders are always old; their age imposes respect, and someone like her, who’s a young witch, would never manage to convince people to believe that she has the best intentions for them.

“No… I don’t want you to sacrifice for me!” Hermione was on the verge of tears.

“I couldn’t do the same for Lily, whom I loved until the day she left… Please, let me do it for the woman I love now,” Snape declared with a sad smile.

Hermione’s eyes widened; she couldn’t believe she was hearing those words.

“I know I’m too old, but I can’t help it, Hermione… I’m in love with you,” the older wizard said with a smirk. “And if I have to give my life for you to survive, then that’s what I’m going to do, because I know I’m going to lose you once you get back with Potter,” he said in a serious tone.

“What? I’m not going back there, Severus… Just leave me here, please; this isn’t your fight. You already gave the world everything when you spied for Voldemort for our cause!” Hermione was on the verge of tears.

“Sorry, Hermione… But I already made my decision; I’m going to protect you so you can survive!” He declared, and Hermione couldn’t stop the tears now.

“No… I don’t want you to die because I love you too!” She declared, and Snape’s eyes widened.

“Oh… What a cute moment… It’s disgusting,” John said with an annoyed expression.

And then they started to attack. Luckily, Snape was more than ready for this, and soon he started to attack back and cast shields. Hermione didn’t want to be useless, so she tried to fight too, which wasn’t easy, as fighting wasn’t her best skill.

“Hermione… You have to do it… You have to destroy the Fidelius item,” Snape told her in a low tone.

That item was something that covered the whole area to hide it, it was just a stone but that was more than enough to cover the area that their city covered, Hermione was feeling scared about what Snape was implying but she knew they had no other choice, they were betrayed and if they wanted to survive and escape, they needed the fidelius charm to be gone, so, Hermione nodded and soon the two of them started to run around the palace.

She was now hating Ron even more because he was the one who came up with the great idea of having the government run on this palace; at least it was useful because there wasn’t much area for big attacks.

“Take this and this!” Snape said as he got rid of those he could.

He was an incredible fighter but they were outnumbered, so, it was logical that some of the spells left bruises and some of them destroyed some of their clothes, Hermione was practically running on her black panties and bra, they don’t know how they managed to do it, but they finally reached the room where the hiding item was stored, however, she and Severus weren’t the only ones in the room.

“Hermione… Severus… Just surrender, and we promise that you’re going to be treated like political prisoners,” John offered them.

Hermione was very aware of why he was suddenly acting like that. If they destroyed the item, it was going to take some time to bring back the Fidelius Charm to keep the city hidden; with the city being completely uncovered, Harry Potter and his followers could realize that the protections were gone and attack them.

“Think about Harry Potter… He’s going to kill everyone!” Frank spoke this time.

Hermione heard all their words; however, they held no meaning as she saw the bloody face of the man she fell for. Also, she knew that Harry wouldn’t do something like that; she always knew he would never become a monster. She didn’t know why she decided to take that route and think that he was evil.

Right now, she was seeing the true evil: people who weren’t happy with her because of her blood status. They tried to pretend that it was because she was a young witch, but in reality it was all rooted in discrimination. It was truly sad and pathetic; she couldn’t help but think of herself as that, as pathetic.

“Harry Potter is a lot of things: a hard-headed idiot, a hero, and most of all… My best friend; he would never do something like that!” She declared, and soon, she destroyed the stone, bringing down the Fidelius Charm.

Everyone screamed as the barrier started to disappear. Hermione ran to help Severus, who was on the floor, dealing with pain; he had been hit on the chest.

“No… It’s going to be alright, Severus. You survived Nagini’s attack; you’re going to survive this,” Hermione said between sobs.

“No… That’s not going to happen because you two are going to die!” Arnold declared.

Hermione tried to cast a shield, but there were many attacks, and when it was over, she was just as bloody as Severus. Now she knew what was going to happen: she was going to be publicly executed; they were going to make a show out of her death.

She wanted to escape; she wanted to run, but her wand was far away. The bastards who betrayed her were closer to her wand, and Severus had lost his wand some time ago, which only meant one thing: this battle was over; they were going to die. What a terrible outcome; they survived the petrification only to continue living on a world in which discrimination was a normal thing.

“Get these two ready… We’re going to tell the citizens what they had done, and let’s get to work to bring the barrier back,” John said this time.

Just like Hermione suspected, they were going to make a show out of their deaths. She and Severus were lifted as they were carried around the city to catch the citizens' attention; soon everyone followed them until they reached the main plaza.

“For putting our city in danger, these two are going to get—” John couldn’t finish as the sky was suddenly filled with something… Brooms, and there were a lot of them.

Hermione could only watch with her last bit of strength as Harry Potter appeared, and she couldn’t help but sob before losing consciousness.
