Chapter #1: The apprentice.
The life of a magical apprentice is very interesting. At first, it’s hard because you have to wake up early, and that’s something Harry wasn’t used to, because certain potions have to be brewed right before dawn. He has to be up very early, something that he didn’t even do back when he studied at Hogwarts.
After graduating, Harry didn’t know what to do with his life. His father wanted him to join the Auror forces, while his mother wanted him to join her in the Department of Mysteries; not only did both of those jobs sound very boring to him, but also, knowing he would get those positions because of nepotism made him feel awful.
He wanted to make a name for himself, something to feel proud of, and so he decided to work as a shopkeeper at a potion ingredient store. It was surprising for the family to know that Harry was born with the gift to make potions. The customers loved him because he was always good with them, and if he didn’t have a material, no matter how rare it was, he always tried his best to find some supply for his clients. One day, someone saw all the efforts he made and took a decision.
“You… Yes, you, the cute shopkeeper,” a brown-haired witch said with a smirk.
She was older than him, and she was the whole representation of the witches of the past, but with a twist: she wore high heels, tight blue jeans, a short, tight cloak that hugged her big breasts, a pointy hat that barely covered her bushy curly hair, and a smirk that told everyone that she was confident in who she was.
“Yes?” Harry questioned with a worried expression.
He was worried he might’ve encountered one of those weirdos that always try to make a show out of things; he was worried this woman was one of those people who did crazy things for attention; however, no matter the origin, Harry never treated any possible customer poorly.
“My name’s Hermione… Hermione Jean Granger, and I want to take you as my apprentice!” She declared with a smirk.
Soon, there were gasps all over the place. Harry’s eyes widened after hearing those words, not only because someone offered him an apprenticeship but because he knew that name very well.
Hermione Jean Granger was a Muggle-born witch, a genius in all areas of magic, and considered the second most intelligent witch of the last few years, just after his mother, even though she was the second, which was a very impressive feat as his mother was very smart.
Hermione was in her mid-thirties, never married because she was obsessed with the pursuit of knowledge. These days, from time to time, you always hear about her newest discoveries in the field of potions; to have someone like her in the shop asking him to become her apprentice was something Harry never expected to happen.
“Uh… I don’t mean to offend you, Miss Granger, but… Why me?” Asked Harry, worried.
She smirked.
“Because you have all the characteristics I’m looking for in an… Apprentice, of course,” she said in a calm tone.
Harry was a bit suspicious. He didn’t want to have very high hopes, but still, he remained silent. Becoming an apprentice isn’t something he dreamed of; he doesn’t like to be bossed around, which is why he does a good job so he won’t be bossed around in the shop.
However, if he joins her, he’s going to have to listen and do everything she tells him to do. He hates to admit it, but he’s a bit scared; after all, no matter how famous she was, Harry doesn’t personally know her. What if she’s a monster behind closed doors? What if she’s a serial killer who traps young men and then buries them in the middle of the forest?
“I’m sorry, but I’m not interested in that now. Are you looking for a potion material or something already brewed?” Asked Harry with a calm expression.
Hermione was clearly taken aback; it was obvious she didn’t expect that answer.
“What?” She asked with a raised brow.
“I’m flattered, but I don’t think I’m made up for that… I have a few friends who would suit you much better, so, if you want to—” She stopped him.
“I don’t want others… I want you!” She clarified, and Harry was surprised by her harshness.
“But why? There’s nothing special about me,” Harry admitted with a soft smile.
It wasn’t a complaint; he was happy being a normal, not-so-out-of-the-ordinary person. While he grew up, there were a lot of expectations about him because of what his parents achieved, and a lot of times many people, close people, were disappointed in him because they believed he didn’t put in the effort, and Harry believed that he just didn’t have the talent to do anything worthwhile.
“Nothing special? The way you know about materials is impressive; I’ve known potions masters with less knowledge than you!” She said with a grin.
Harry couldn’t help but blush.
“I see potential in you…” Hermione stopped to look at the name on his cloak. “Harry,” she told him with a grin.
“Thanks for your kind words but I think you’re making a mistake and if you don’t need anything from the store, then, if you excuse me, I need to serve my regular customers.” Harry didn’t want to hear any of it.
Him having any talent? Yeah, sure, hell would freeze before that happened.
“Listen to me, Harry… I’m not giving up easily!” She declared, and Harry sighed.
He thought nothing of this experience; however, that was clearly a mistake because the woman, as she said, didn’t give up easily. For a week, she visited the store, trying to convince him by explaining him the benefits he would get from being her apprentice. She tried to do it while he was on his free time after work, and he even approached his parents to tell them about the idea.
Of course, his parents were delighted to hear the proposal, and if Harry still lived with them, they would’ve agreed at once. They knew the woman, and they trusted she could make something out of him, which only made Harry feel more annoyed; it was really hard for some people to accept that some of us just want to be at peace.
And then one day Harry was desperate because of a material that he forgot to order, and the client was already asking for it; he felt desperate; however, Hermione appeared and handed the man the material.
“Thank you, but… Why did you do that?” Asked Harry, surprised.
She smirked.
“So, you would owe me a favor,” she confessed without shame.
“I’m not going to become your apprentice because of that. I’m going to pay you, I swear,” Harry tried to say, and she shook her head.
“I’m not asking you to become my apprentice over that favor… I just want you to come to the place I’m using for my investigations, and if that doesn’t convince you to join me then… I’ll leave you alone,” she told him with a warm smile.
Harry hated being in this situation, but he hated owing favors, so he agreed, and he was surprised by the place he found; it was so magical, and just when he thought the surprises were over, Hermione appeared in front of him completely naked.
“This is my way of working, Harry. Are you sure you don’t want to join me?” She asked with a smirk.
Harry was fucked.
