Chapter #8: A favor for a favor.

The day has finally come- the day for Harry and the minister to meet up. The situation was critical: Snape was gone; the man was probably their only hope for survival, and yet he was easily caught by those beings; the destiny of the world rested on this meeting.

“Minister, good evening,” Harry said in a serious tone.

“Good evening, Mr. Potter,” the minister added with a fake smile.

He wasn't alone, of course; he came with Percy, who didn't look too amused to be here. Hermione was with him, or else he would lose his composure and beat the crap out of Percy for being ashamed of his upbringing. Also, it was hard for him to remain calm, as he wasn’t a fan of politicians and neither a fan of Percy, so two of the things he wanted to see the least were in front of him right now.

“I’ll cut to the chase, Minister… This world is in danger; beings from another planet have come to take us. We’re all in danger, as they seem to be especially fixated on us magical people,” Harry decided to be blunt.

Harry was expecting the minister to be shocked about hearing those words; however, the man suddenly started to laugh. It was a light-hearted laugh, but when he saw that Harry wasn’t laughing, his laughter started to die.

“Mr. Potter… What you say doesn’t make any sense; we have no proof of life outside the Earth,” the man said with a disappointed expression. “We have more important matters to take care of instead of little green men from another planet that are obviously not real,” the minister sighed.

Harry wanted to snap; however, he suddenly felt Hermione’s touch on his hand and decided to calm down.

“We have more important things to worry about, like the Death Eater threat,” the minister said in a serious tone. “I know that they stopped appearing in public; there has been no sight of them for a couple of days. However, it’s obvious that they’re plotting something. I don’t know what it is, but I know it’s going to be terrible. Trust me, I fought them for years before you defeated you-know-who,” the minister said with a blank stare.

It’s clear that he saw horrible things during the war; however, he quickly recovered.

“Minister, you have to trust me. They’re gone because their leader has been taken by those things. There was a body that appeared in the Daily Prophet a few days ago; that body belonged to Voldemort.” Harry's mention of that name made the minister flinch.

“Don’t say that name… They can use it to track you!” The minister wasn’t happy. “And what do you mean he’s gone? Wasn’t that what Dumbledore said the last time? That he was gone and then came back? Even if what you say is true, couldn’t he come back again?” Asked the minister with a serious expression.

Harry knew Voldemort wasn’t coming back because he saw in his dreams how he was roaming in deep space thanks to their link; he could be one light-year from here or a hundred, but that was irrelevant considering that the bastard didn’t know a thing about light-years, and the worst thing for him was that even if he knew in which direction Earth was, by the time he arrived, humanity probably wouldn’t exist anymore.

Harry knows the sun will explode before Voldemort even arrives here, and so his horcruxes will be destroyed after that event; that’s something Harry knows for sure will happen, but even in the case that doesn’t happen, then he’s going to roam in the universe until the end of it.

“Minister, Volde—” Harry stopped in his tracks at the minister’s look. “You-know-who managed to survive during the last attack due to a very dark ritual; let’s just say that he cannot die. However, his body can be destroyed, and right now his body is gone, and considering what happened the last time, he’s probably roaming in the universe right now in the place where those aliens killed him,” Harry tried to explain without giving too much information.

The minister gave him a skeptical look.

“That’s a very interesting way of seeing things, Mr. Potter; however, we need results, real results, not products of imagination. If we’re not sure he’s dead, then we cannot rule him out as a threat,” the minister said, standing firm in his beliefs.

This is why Harry hated politicians: for them, their ego and achieving something to make themselves look good is more important than taking care of the important things that matter, and the worst thing is that they’re stubborn and they’re proud of it.

“It seems like we truly have different visions of what’s important, Minister, if you excuse me.” Harry couldn’t take it anymore and soon got up.

Hermione was left alone with the minister and Percy, and she couldn’t help but smile awkwardly at the pair.

“Oh, sorry, Minister, he means that he needs a bit of fresh air. He’s coming back, don’t worry… Why don’t you try the cookies and the chocolate? They were made by Mrs. Weasley, and she’s an excellent cook!” Hermione said as she got up.

“He already knows that because I told him in advance,” Percy said, annoyed.

Hermione rolled her eyes internally.

“Anyway, enjoy them, please; we’ll be back in a few moments,” Hermione finally said, getting up.

She ran as fast as she could to catch up to Harry, and she wasn’t surprised to find him fuming. She knew her best friend very well; he’s a man who always has a bit of difficulty controlling his emotions, and yet, that doesn’t stop her from loving him.

“I know what you’re going to say, Hermione, and trust me, I tried, I really tried, but… Have you noticed how much of an arsehole he is?!” Harry questioned with an exasperated tone.

“Yeah… I kind of noticed, but it was expected. I mean, he’s a politician; you can’t expect anything positive from those people,” she said, smiling weakly at him, and he couldn’t help but grin back at her.

Then he sighed; he knew he screwed up, and now the minister was going to think of him as nothing but an immature idiot who cannot be trusted with important things.

“What should I do, Hermione?” He asked with a disappointed look.

Hermione clarified her voice.

“Well, you can offer him something in exchange… A favor for a favor; politicians love that kind of stuff,” she told him with a hopeful smile.

“Seduce the minister? I’m sorry Miss Granger… I’m more into women,” he said as he placed his hands on her hips.

She rolled her eyes but smiled anyway, and then she was kissed by her best friend. This wasn’t the right place to do something like this, and yet she couldn’t help but enjoy it. She decided to let him kiss her as much as he wanted; maybe this would calm him down. She was hopeful about that.

And so, after a couple of minutes of intense snogging, they finally decided to come back to the meeting.

“Sorry, Minister, I had to make a quick introspection about our meeting, and I came up with a proposal… I know you need the general public on your side… What about a statement in the Daily Prophet?” Harry suggested with a serious but calm tone.

The minister’s face lit up after hearing that proposal.

“Mr. Potter… I would be delighted—” the minister was suddenly stopped by Harry.

“Although I’m going to need a favor, minister… There’s a certain device in the hands of Muggles; we just need a piece of it, but if you can’t get it, then, as long as you find the location, I’d be more than happy to have such information,” Harry smiled at the minister.

The minister was surprised; that was an interesting proposal, to say the least.
