Chapter #9: Memories.
Harry Potter in support of the minister- that’s what the headlines said in most newspapers of wizarding Britain, and it made sense. The dark-haired wizard and the minister gave a conference about the future of the magical world; in fact, Harry apparently has an honorary job at the Ministry, assistant of the newly created "Department of War".
It was a ridiculous title, but Harry and the rest needed a piece of a UFO to study it; that’s the only way they could find a weakness in the system, or else everyone would be fucked, and not in a good sense. Also, Harry was able to give a speech about the threat of the aliens; yes, Harry didn’t fear calling them like that any longer.
He didn’t want to speculate because that technology could belong to a foreign government; however, the fact that Voldemort was now roaming in the middle of the universe meant that the beings who did that to him were not from this world; hell, he was sure they were not even from the solar system.
He was hopeful that this would cause people to discuss what was going on and the reason why they became targets of those beings. It’s a shame that it’s been a week and there has been no sign of Professor Snape; he was probably the most prepared person to deal with this.
Harry was lost in his thoughts when suddenly there was a knock on his door. It was Hermione, and she had a serious look; he was already sensing what was going on.
“Hermione?” He asked in a calm tone.
“He’s here, Harry,” she explained, and the dark-haired wizard nodded.
Soon they were outside, in the living room of Grimmauld Place. The minister was there too, and luckily, this time he came without Percy. Harry couldn't stand the sight of the Weasley prat. The minister held a serious expression, which meant this wasn’t going to be a good meeting.
“Minister?” Harry asked in a calm tone.
“I’ll be blunt, Harry… The Muggles denied the existence of the secret program where they work with the technology you talk about,” the minister told him in a serious tone.
Harry knew he shouldn’t feel surprised, but he couldn’t help it.
“Well, that sucks,” Harry sighed.
“Indeed,” Hermione chimed in.
The minister, instead, smirked.
“Well, muggles say one thing, but they often think differently,” the minister said this time.
“Minister?” Harry asked with a raised brow.
“Well… As you know, the contract between Muggle politicians and wizards is very restricted; we’re not allowed to use magic on them, or else a lunatic could use the Imperius Curse and cause a nuclear war, so the minister has a lot of restrictions. It was something that was agreed between the two societies since the separation of the two worlds back in the Middle Ages,” the minister explained, and Harry and Hermione nodded; they were well aware of that.
The minister was still amused.
“Well, it’s just a verbal agreement, a matter of honor if you ask me… Let’s just say that I used a bit of Legilimency on the British prime minister and, just like I suspected, not only did he know the location, but he saw the vehicles and also the tripulants. I have the memory here,” the minister gave Harry everything.
“Minister… But why?” Asked the younger wizard, confused.
The man was risking everything for something he thought was insane.
“Well, I trust you, Harry Potter… You were warning us about the Voldemort threat for years, and we ignored you and look where that got us,” the minister sighed.
It was true; Harry could still remember the smear campaign he went through during those days.
“I don’t want to ignore any threat, even if it sounds crazy. You presented good arguments in the public hearing, so the information is there for you to do as you please; just one thing… If they ask you about me, tell them I know nothing about this, or else this could cause a problem between the two societies,” the minister gave Harry the memories.
Harry was surprised; he took the vial with the memories and could only nod at the minister.
“Well, now if you excuse me, Mr. Potter, I need to get back to the Ministry. See you around, Miss Granger,” the man said with a weak smile as he left.
Hermione and Harry were taken aback by the attitude of the minister.
“Wow… That almost gave me hope about the government,” Harry said with a surprised tone.
“Almost is the key word,” she sighed.
They knew about this minister’s philosophy: the means don’t matter as long as you get the results.
“So… What do we do now?” Asked Harry now that they had the information.
“Well, we need to see the memories first; we should ask Kreacher if there’s a Pensieve in the house,” Hermione told him, and he nodded.
They asked the house-elf, and even though he wasn’t happy, he told them about the one in the old masters’ room. He even showed them how to open the secret room where the thing was hidden, and they were surprised to see the many vials with the names.
“Sirius’ memories volume 1, Sirius imperfections, Regulus perfect moments…” Harry said with a disgusted expression.
It was clear that they favored one of their sons. He hated when people did that. He knew that he wasn’t Vernon and Petunia’s son, but he went through the same situation as he grew up. Harry wouldn’t have blamed the Dursleys for their treatment if they had only ignored him, but they did more than that; they also bragged about their awful treatment, which made things worse.
“Are you ready, Harry?” Hermione asked as she saw him lost in thought.
“Yeah, let’s go,” he declared, and soon they lowered their faces.
Soon they were teleported to the memories of the minister. It seemed like the secret base was in Wales, a beautiful place to have it, if Harry must say, apparently. Even though it was a British secret base, there were American soldiers too; it makes sense, all NATO members are in the service of the Americans.
And then it finally happened: they reached the hangars where there were different ships; there were saucers, a metal sphere the size of a human, and a tic tac. Harry was surprised to see the models, all the things he saw on TV, comics, movies, magazines, all that was real.
Then Harry and Hermione were shocked to see army members carrying some bodies; others carried one with a mantis-like face, and another couple of soldiers were carrying a very human-like body, but this one was taller.
“Fuck… Aliens… They’re real,” Harry said after gulping.
He looked back at Hermione, and she was scared. He didn’t know if she was scared by the sight or by the brutality of the army. They were very indifferent about the death of those beings; this should’ve been the discovery of the century, but all this was hidden from the world. They couldn’t take it anymore, so they finally decided to stop watching the memories.
“So… What’s the plan?” Asked Harry with a concerned expression.
“After seeing how we treat those beings, I can see why they’re so hostile towards the rest of us… I can’t think of anything other than a heist,” she told him with a serious expression.
“Hermione… We’re talking about the British government, are you sure?” Harry asked, shocked.
Hermione hated breaking the law, but the destiny of the world rested on their shoulders, so she nodded without hesitation.
