Chapter #5: Hogwarts: School of Science and Technology.

This Hogwarts was very different from the one Harry was used to. There wasn’t a huge welcoming ceremony, and there wasn’t a train to take them there, and least of all, the sorting ceremony was very different from the one in his original universe. Of course, that made sense because magic wasn’t supposed to exist here.

He was surprised to find that his classmates were mostly the same as the ones from his original universe. There were some new original faces, but there was also the person he loathed the most, Draco Malfoy. Luckily, there was also his best friend, Ron Weasley.

Ron would be practically the same person; if only he wasn’t completely stressed out. It seemed like he was still the youngest male of the family. Ginny still existed; however, in this world without magic, raising such a big family was a more difficult challenge without the comforts of magic. However, the Weasleys always managed to get by.

“So… Which house do you think you’re going to?” Ron asked him out of nowhere.

Harry interrupted his thoughts to look at this version of his best friend and quickly shook his head. This wasn’t the usual Ron; he shouldn’t act as if they were best friends, even though that's how Harry saw him. Reality was very different.

“I hope to be in Gryffindor; I think it’s a good house and my parents were there, but even though I want to make them proud, that’s not the only reason, you know? I’m not doing it because my life depends on it; I want to get into Gryffindor because I want to, I want to take control of my life and not owe anything to anyone, not even my parents,” Harry declared, and Ron nodded.

“That’s a very cool way to see things,” the redhead said, surprised.

Of course, Harry knew what the redhead was thinking; he had known him for more than 150 years, and it seemed like his suspicions were confirmed. Ron was still the same insecure person; however, there was a bit of hope: he could still be redeemed from the thing that made his childhood miserable, that's if he didn't act like a jerk. Of course, Harry just needed to teach him how to behave.

“It was hard to get the scholarship, you know? It’s hard not to think about my parents' sacrifice so I could come here,” he said in a serious tone.

“I see where you’re going. My parents also made a huge sacrifice; however, you have to think for yourself. You’re already here; don't think about your parents too much because they're not going to solve the exams nor do the homework for you,” Harry declared, and the redhead nodded.

“Yes… I think I’ll do that,” Ron said, feeling like his nervousness was starting to lessen.

Soon the names started, and just like he suspected, Ron and Hermione ended up in Gryffindor.

“This is taking too long,” Harry said to himself.

“Yeah, they’re literally making last-minute check-ins,” Harry heard a knowing voice.

However, this voice wasn’t as annoying as the one he was used to.

“Uh, hi,” Harry tried to act nonchalantly; he pretended he didn’t know who this was.

“Hi, my name’s Malfoy, Draco Malfoy,” said the blonde with a grin.

The blonde extended his hand, and Harry was hesitating, but in the end, he took it.

“Draco, from Dragon, right? That’s a badass name,” Harry said with a calm tone.

Draco was taken aback by the way he recognized his name, but in the end, he smirked. One would think that Harry was crazy for trying to be friends with the blonde; however, this Malfoy didn’t look too bad, or at least Harry tried to believe that, because Voldemort didn’t have the same ideology as the one from his universe.

However, Harry knew that he needed connections in this world, and even though he still had conflicted feelings about the versions of the people he knew in this universe, maybe this could be the opportunity to make things differently.

“Oh, it’s my turn,” said the blonde.

Harry nodded, and just as expected, he ended up in Slytherin. Harry decided to wait for his turn this time, and then it finally happened: he was finally called in, and he couldn’t help but sigh. This was going to be interesting, and the best thing about this experience was the fact that nobody cared that he was Harry Potter in this universe; this was going to be fun.

Just as expected, he ended up in Gryffindor. He greeted Hermione and Ron, and even though Draco was disappointed, he waved at him too. Then the welcoming feast started; it was less magical, as the house-elves were replaced by normal workers in this universe, and if that was the case, could Dobby be a normal human this time?

There were many questions in his mind right now; however, he decided not to concern himself with those things. He had to think about what to do now because there was no magic, or at least no controllable magic.

“I’d like your attention to welcome the new science professor, Lily Potter.” Harry’s eyes widened after hearing that.

But the surprises didn’t end there.

“And the new math professor, James Potter,” then his father appeared. “They’re good friends of mine who decided to take the position that I’ve been offering them for ages,” added Professor Dumbledore with a calm tone.

Now Harry knew things were going to be a bit difficult. It’s not like he hated his parents; the problem was that he wanted to be on his own. Now he’s going to feel like they’re watching over him, so when the feast ended, he decided to speak with them.

“Mother… Father, I don’t mean to sound rude, but… Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be taking care of things back at Godric’s Hollow?” Asked Harry, trying not to sound too annoyed.

His father suddenly started to chuckle.

“Don’t worry, Sirius is taking care of things back home. We decided that it was time to come to the capital and take the positions we’ve been offered for a long time; that’s it,” his father said in a calm tone.

“Really? It doesn’t have to do with the fact that I’m here now?” Asked Harry before sighing.

The two parents looked at each other with guilt written on their faces.

“Well, that may have had a little to do with our decision; however… To be fair, it’s not a bad idea to be here. I’ve heard about the things Hermione has been working on, and I feel like I cannot miss this opportunity to expand our business; we're planning to sponsor her projects. You can't be on the vanguard if you’re in the countryside, Harry,” James tried to sound logical.

“We also get to be close to you and establish ourselves, not only because we want to be close to you but because we’re also thinking about your sisters… We’re hoping they could enter this school just like you once they're of age,” his mother said with a weak smile.

Now Harry knew they were playing dirty; they were using his sisters to make their intentions look better. He wanted to get angry; however, he couldn’t deny that he liked the idea of having his sisters close to him.

“They're in the castle?” Asked Harry, surprised.

“No… A friend of ours who lives in the capital; she offered to work as a babysitter. She has a daughter who studies here, you know? Her name is Nymphadora. I’m sure you’re going to find her easily with that name!” His father said cheerfully.

Harry then looked around, and he saw her with her purple hair; even in this universe, she was as crazy as the Nymphadora of his universe.
