Chapter #6: It's like magic.

It has been three years since they entered Hogwarts, and technology was moving too fast in Harry’s opinion, which was something positive because he wanted computers, phones, and video games to be back as soon as possible; however, he decided not to mess up too much, just like humans did in his original universe.

In his original universe, there were wars for resources, but because Harry was able to make things appear in certain places thanks to his magic, the lack of resources was now a thing of the past. Things had been going so incredibly well that they reached the era of electricity, but not just that; it was all powered by nuclear power.

Now it was just a matter of time for things to evolve to the point where he wanted them. If he could describe this new era, it would be a combination of the magical world with the space era of the muggles, as scholars were discovering newer things thanks to the basis that Hermione and Harry had established, and speaking about her.

“What are you thinking about, Harry?” She questioned him with a curious expression.

He remained silent until he thought about something.

“Oh, nothing… I was just thinking about the complex calculations that we’re doing nowadays; equations have become too complex, don’t you think?” He asked, already knowing what she was going to say.

“Well, yes, but that’s progress, you know? The more things we discover, the more things become complicated,” she sighed.

“I know… I was just thinking if there was a way to build something to make calculations for us,” Harry started.

This was the point of no return, once they build a computer there’s no stopping for them, however, Harry also knows he needs to be careful, he doesn’t want the same thing that took place in his original universe to happen here too, you see, the A.I. race of the 2030’s ended up with A.I. becoming more independent until they felt like they don’t needed the humans anymore and because the A.I. was everywhere, disconnecting it was never an option, as the thing ran the system and everything depended on it.

A war broke out, and that almost led to nuclear annihilation as the different A.I. tried to destroy each other for control. At that moment, wizards had to intervene, as the world didn’t belong to muggles only; that’s the only moment in which wizards decided to intervene.

Of course, Muggles had to be Obliviated, with the exception of the presidents of the world who took the memories of those days with them. Harry doesn’t want that to happen in this universe.

“Do you have any idea?” She asked with an interesting look.

“Well, I was thinking of something with a screen, and a keyboard to type and make calculations,” he explained, and she nodded. “The device can even have its own language, and everything could be based on math,” he said, though he didn’t know what he was doing.

Even though he was addicted to computers and he loved to build them, as amusing as it was seeing an old man over one hundred and fifty years old entering a computing store to build pieces for a computer, Harry never truly learned how to manufacture a computer, so he had to rely on concepts.

“I think we can do it if we motivate the team with magic,” she said with a grin.

It was crazy; Hermione was the most skeptical about the uses of magic at the start of their adventure at Hogwarts; however, now she was the most motivated. She hated to admit it, but without magic, it wouldn’t have been possible for the world to reach this state.

The thing is that Hermione and Harry come up with a concept, and she motivates the developers, and somehow, by the power of magic, they always come up with results. Maybe magic acts as a tool to make things come true; maybe magic manipulates them to use their whole intelligence on a task. Neither Harry nor Hermione knows the reason; the only thing they know is that they’re happy to use it as long as it serves their purposes.

“Uh… Harry?” She asked in a shy tone.

“Yes, Hermione?” Harry asked, confused.

“Well, as you know… The Triwizard Tournament is taking place, and there’s a ball on Christmas… I wanted to invite you,” she said in a shy tone.

Harry remembered; it was true, there was a tournament, but it was called Triwizard because of the schools, and also because only the smartest and strongest students could enter. This wasn’t about magic; it was about sports and intelligence. However, as only the best could participate, it was like they were magical.

Harry, of course, wasn't participating in the tournament, as there was no stupid goblet choosing the participants, and now he had the opportunity to have a normal Yule Ball. Hermione’s proposal was interesting, and he wanted to make her happy.

“I completely forgot about that… Yes, I would love to go with you, Hermione,” he said with a warm smile.

To say Hermione was happy would be a complete understatement; it was clear that she was burning with joy. However, she remained calm; she didn’t want to lose her composure. After this wholesome conversation, it was time to focus on something more difficult they'd been dealing with.

“Harry… Let me show you something I’ve been working on,” she said in a serious tone.

She took his hand and led him to a private room, and then she took something out of her pocket. It was a wooden stick, and Harry couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

“Hermione… What is that?” He was astonished at the sight.

She didn’t say anything; instead, she just pointed the wooden stick at the paper.

“Lift!” She ordered, and soon the paper started to rise up in the air. “Stop!” She declared, and the paper fell slowly onto the ground.

It seems like his suspicions have been proven right. Hermione- somehow- managed to get herself a wand. He doesn’t know how she did it, but he was interested in seeing it up close.

“Harry… This is what I like to call a wand,” she declared, and Harry nodded. “In the old days, there were stories about mystical people with wooden sticks; for centuries, people thought those were nothing but myths and look… It works!” She said with a beaming smile.

“Yeah… It truly works,” he said, still in shock. “Hermione… Can I use it?” He asked with a desperate tone.

She remained thoughtful.

“Come on, please, please please—” he almost begged and then was stopped.

“Okay, okay,” she said with a grin and soon handed Harry the wand.

When Harry touched it, he felt like the day he grabbed his phoenix wand for the first time; he could even swear there was music and a light in the room, and then it suddenly ended.

“Hermione… How did you build this?” He asked, surprised.

“Well, I figured out that our magic is nothing but energy, like electricity, but we need something to channel our energy, so I made this wand. Inside there’s a gold string, and it seems like that was more than enough to handle our energy; now we can use this to experiment with magic!” She declared, and Harry must admit that he was impressed.

He never gave her the idea to make the wand; she came up with it, which proves that she truly is a genius, and he couldn’t wait to finally experiment with magic.
