Today we are going to learn how to play one of Randy Newman's most underrated songs, and as a bonus we will learn Nina Simones cover, where she totally flipped the song on the head and took it from descending chromatic piano groove to a reggae bounce.
As always when we teach you the song we will walk you through all the pieces with the tabs on the screen. Most of the songs is just strumming with nothing to fancy with the exception of the piano riff that we transcribed for Randy's verse. We will break it down note for note and make sure you get the groove, because it is so much fun to play. It is also really interesting how Randy hand picked intervals to take the chord progression Em, G, A7, C and still managed to move through those chords chromatically. I learned a lot from breaking this song down.
