Today we are going to learn how to play Diamonds on the Inside by Ben Harper. This guy and Jack Johnson make up the sound track to any great day surfing with your friends and this laid back acoustic song is no exception. The groove is amazing, and we can take it to the next level with a couple simple tricks that when applied to any chord progression make the chords come alive and give them a ton of flavor. This song is so much fun to play with all the little tricks he adds to the rhythm It is based on a relatively easy strum pattern from G to A minor to B minor back to G but there are so many cool little twists that we can add to it to make it super unique and a lot of fun to play.
We will walk you through the chord progressions without any of the embellishments to get just a basic version that you can play and sing that is great for pre-intermediate players looking to master the B minor chord. After you have that base covered we will walk you through all the amazing riffs that Ben plays in the song so you can really spice up the tune with fills, licks, walk ups, walk downs and fun little details and tricks that you can add to your own playing right away to make your strumming much more interesting and fun.
