Today we are going to learn how to solo...without scales?!? How does that work? All arpeggios friends, 100 percent chord tones friend. As you play this you will be amazed at how it sounds, because every single note is in the chord playing underneath. So, how do get it to sound like music? Instead of just chord progressions? The best way to do it is by trying to think like the human voice and look for passing tones, what does that mean? It means for example if you finish the phrase on the F major chord, and land on the F note and you are going to the A7 chord, it has an E note, taking the melody from the F to the E note is an example of passing tone and great way to make your arpeggios sound like music.

I used to have a bias against arpeggios because as a kid I learned them as static equidistant non-musical exercises. Then I learned to add some hot sauce: phrasing, pregnant pauses, bends, slides, enclosure notes, etc. Now I mostly use arpeggios with scales (since I try to improvise a lot I couldn't do it on the fly without scales). I will look at the layout of my scale and see which chords shapes are naturally there. Then I will arpeggiate those chords.

A good lessons for working on counting out loud and syncing in rhythm with the backing track…I really need to work on this. Thanks Tyler.
