As you can probably tell, I watched Big Lebowski last night haha. That rug really did tie the room together.

Today we are looking at soul and R&B style grooves and rhythms. I could have made this tutorial much shorter and just played each of the 5 examples without and then with a backing track but I wanted to really take a deeper dive into what it is, how to use it, what it looks like with different chord shapes and in different keys. In addition to that in the for the first lick I really take my time to break it down, explain how to play it, count it, how to approach learning it and with the backing track I show you how I use them to learn the lick. Using a backing track isn't as simple as just putting a backing track on and shredding the lick perfectly. I will show you how I put it on, then I count the lick out. How I identify any troublesome or tricky parts of the phrase, then how I isolate them and practice them, before returning to the full lick and incorporating them with the rest of the piece. Learning how to use a backing track is a very important skill to have and it really will make you a better overall player in all aspects of your playing, rhythm, timing, dynamics, which all can be applied to other licks, full solos strumming or any other aspect of your playing.
