thank you to everyone who has joined me on watching our first watch through of Heated Rivalry, this truly was amazing and something that i literally think changed my brain chemistry and also like its given me so much. so many new friends, new feelings, new ideas and emotions. its been an amazing journey. were onto reading the book now!!

I feel like no one sees this show coming, you just don’t know until you watch it. So good! Really enjoyed your reactions. I like your idea of rewatching after the book and having a little more insight. The book and show are sooo closely done together, it blew my mind a bit reading it. They didn’t change tons and what they did is good. Enjoy!

i took a peak at the book and i saw that after the final scene in the show theres move in the book to read and even an epilogue so im exited!! i needed to see the show first because itll help me visualize the book better i think!

I’m not even sure how many times I’ve watched it all the way through at this point. Between standard watches and watching other people watch it on Patreon and YouTube it could be 20 by now lol. I was the same way with Heartstopper and Red, White and Royal Blue…once in a while something comes along I really connect with and it moves me. This show is so great!! I just wish it was eligible for Emmy consideration.

no he can’t marry him. they cannot even be out as gay - either of them - nonetheless go public with their relationship at all - so they can’t get married - it’s public record.

oh yeah, but closeted in secret still, other than Shane’s parents. I just meant, I think it’s part of what’s painful for them - that in their world they can’t get married now even tho it’s legal, the world they’re in is intolerant

it makes me a little sad that at this point, they only have these two weeks together, being able to just be normal and affectionate and uninhibited and together all the time, and it will be hard after this to go back to not being around each other much

It’ll happen eventually. They have been together for almost a decade, it’s hard to change their dynamic, but they’ve found comfort in each other. I’ve read the books, so I know what happens, but it’s a journey for sure. I have been closeted myself so I understand wanting to keep a relationship a secret, but it wears on you eventually. There’s got to be a moment when you can just let go of expectations and choose your life, choose happiness.

Oh I know gurl listen knowing there’s a happy ending eventually is the way we’re gonna survive the valleys in season 2/ TLG plot. And I appreciate that Jacob is all about the happy ending. / what’s bugging me is watching ten million reaction vids where folks are like, “gay marriage is legal, just get married”, like all of the pressures and restrictions where they can’t be together at this point are not landing with folks.

True. People often don't realise why these two don't feel they can come out.. they often say "but Scott did". Scott is older and nearer retirement and his partner isn't involved in hockey. Whereas these two have been pitted as rivals their whole careers and the public would not only feel liked to but also question their movements and motives in the game... it's a whole other kettle of fish. I think people get so swept up in the emotion and also having seen Scott that they don't take the time to think it through more.

Thank you so much for your reaction. I'm so glad I got to watch it all again with you. It's such an affecting series... it moved me deeply and changed me on a cellular level. I can only imagine what's it's done for others who are in a similar position to the characters in the show. As someone who has lived very much in the shadows the last 10 years due to difficult circumstances... this show cracked me open and I don't think I can go back. So I have rewatched it so many times and watched so many reactions to it, to make myself brave.

Hey Alex! I've been watching your replies on instagram (this is @augustana2027 on instagram)...and I saw your abbreviated post this morning about the first few minutes of the card ride from airport to the cottage!! I SO agreed with you that it was going to be an emotional episode ...SO, I really wanted to watch your *entire* thoughts about episode 6 and I'm so glad I joined your patreon page to watch it with you today!! Watching with you today was my third time watching EP 6! AND, I've got to say, I'm STILL at the cottage! This episode is not only beautifully shot, but more importantly, in my opinion, it is a beautiful love letter to Shane and Ilya's love for each other!! It was was the doctor ordered (and also for themselves) to see them FINALLY proclaim there love to each other!! I have SO many comments, but I promise I won't take up all your comment section

.......SORRY, I hit return before I could finish my previous post, so here it is......I said I didn't want to use all your comment space with ALL my comments about everything in EP 6, but I will comment about one of the ending moments I love --- where Shane is freaking out at his parent's dinner table....after Ilya tries to calm him down..." everything is good here, your parents are here, Your boyfriend is here.." and Shane says , " MY boyfriend..?" and then a loving Ilya says, " yes, I mean, I think so, probably " and then Ilya reaches over to lovingly kiss Shane.....THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME they kiss in front of anyon!!! and its in front of Shane's parents!! LOVE THIS - made me well up with tears for these two! OH the evolution !!

And by the way, I remember back in November when everybody was talking about this “new gay hockey show” blah blah blah , and I was like, “that’s ALL I need is yet someone else’s take how you’re *supposed* to be gay!!” Ugh!! I didn’t want to see it, and I chose not to!! It wasn’t until I started noticing all the hoopla on Instagram and social media and THEN a couple of my friends in Washington DC said I was ridiculous not to watch it!! — so, they got me to watch it because they said they wanted to converse with me about hockey lolol - whatever! I took my nephews out of town for Christmas and that’s when I decided to start watching it , the day after Christmas… My nephews went surfing and I just decided to sit on a beach chair and get my gay series on!! — and wow, my friends in DC were absolutely right! I binge watched it and I was flabbergasted! Shocked, and nothing shocks me anymore. I was shocked because I was so dead said against watching it and thinking that nobody could bring better light to a coming out story… Boy was I ever wrong. It was an absolutely.beautiful love story. The dialogue was believable, the actors were believable, there was so much chemistry. It was palpable!! It truly changed me. It made me feel like there’s hope for everybody still looking for “that person” and to keep my own heart open.

The song playing in the car at the beginning is the theme song from a show we watched as teenagers called "Le Chalet," which means "The Cottage" in English. All the French Canadians screamed when they heard it! 🤭
