You might be aware that while IoM has found a supportive community here on Patreon, it's also available on several other platforms, including Steam, Itch, and Subscribestar. Steam and Patreon have indeed become the main platforms, and I've cherished the engagement I've had here. In recent weeks, it's come to my attention that the Steam players feel a bit sidelined, seeing Patreon receive exclusive updates and not having the same experience. I completely understand their perspective, and I apologize for my absence in responding to Steam messages lately; my focus has been entirely on completing the first episode of the new season.

Herein lies the dilemma: Season 2 is essentially ready to go. I am faced with the option to release it on all platforms except Steam almost immediately. Steam requires a more complex process to ensure the game meets their standards, which understandably takes more time. (I've to send the game to them, and they take some time to check that it follows the guidelines, that everything works correctly, etc., and then they tell me if I can launch it or if I've to make some changes)

I've given this considerable thought, weighing the anticipation and excitement each of you have shown against the potential frustrations of the IoM Steam community. The last thing I want is to contribute to any feeling of imbalance within the IoM family.

Adding to the challenge are the inevitable game leaks. Websites like F95, known for their swift pirating of games, also serve as a double-edged sword attracting new players who appreciate the effort put into IoM, yet simultaneously undermining the integrity of the fair release schedule. With IoM's growing popularity, having achieved a spot in the top 100 adult games on Patreon, leaks are likely to happen even faster than before. (The last launch was pirated in less than 24 hours, and even some low-tier supporters here were mad at me, telling me how it was possible that the pirate version was already out there and they still had to wait to play the game... I can't control piracy, and I'm only one person, so I just give my best into developing and hope people appreciate it and support, I prefer to focus on that than trying to stop something that is almost unstopable)

I want to take a moment to address a critical and delicate issue. There is a considerable number of players eagerly awaiting the game's release on Steam, and every day I receive messages expressing their anticipation. It's critical for me to consider the scenario if I were to release the game here on Patreon this week. Within 24 hours, it could be pirated and appear on sites like F95... Imagine the avalanche of frustration of Steam users seeing the game pirated elsewhere while it's not even available on their preferred platform. The situation is not only illogical but would also be deeply troubling to me, both on a professional and personal level. My supporters, who are prepared to back me, would have every right to voice their concerns.

With these considerations in mind, I have made the decision to synchronize launches across all platforms. This means we will all experience the beginning of Season 2's journey together, on the same day, at the same hour. It's not a choice made lightly, knowing how eager many of you are to dive into the new content and the already long wait. Yet, ensuring a unified release is paramount in preventing a fragmented and possibly negative experience for any portion of the IoM community.

Months of dedication have been poured into Season 2, and I am confident that you will find it to be an extraordinary continuation of the story. The new season has been crafted with great care, and I believe it sets the stage for taking Innocence Or Money to greater heights. 🙂

Finally, I'd like to convey the importance of rest and well-being in the midst of this shared journey. The development of Season 2 has been an uninterrupted marathon of dedication over recent months, and the passion I have for bringing you an incredible installment has never waned. I am truly proud of the groundwork laid that promises to elevate Innocence Or Money to new heights.

As I prepare to submit the game to Steam for their review process, this also presents me with an opportunity to take a much-needed breather. These moments to recharge are critical for maintaining my physical and mental health. It is at moments like these that I am reminded of the importance of balance, not only for the continued success of IoM but for my ability to keep creating and innovating for years to come.

This grants me the space to release the stress of constant work and to ensure that I can sustainably offer you the best gaming experience possible. You people deserve nothing but the best.

Thank you for understanding and for standing by me through this process. Your belief in this project and in me as a developer means the world. 🌍🙂

Wait Marci! Where are today pics! 😱

Tomorrow I will make a cross-platform-post (Patreon - Subscribestar - Steam) So expect a long post with pics, it will be a post for all tiers. I haven't posted anything on Steam for over a month, so I want to do something for all the platforms to let them know that I am alive and IoMing.😉

As always, I wish you a happy weekend, and see you tomorrow. 🙂🍺

Thank you very much for explaining in detail the state of the game, I'm super excited to play the new version and I understand the decision. You know you will always have my support, IoM is my favorite game and we know how hard you work to create this wonderful game, I'm glad to hear that you can also rest a little, you deserve it Marcial. Please let us know as soon as it is accepted on Steam.

marcialart

Thanks Emil! 👋 I will do that for sure 🙂, I should be submitting the game to Steam this week after the sounds and languages are at 100%.

GRRM

Update like this is way more important than just some pictures. Though of course, I still want the pictures. Nevertheless, I appreciate the decision you made to minimize the impact of piracy. Well planned decision, Marci! I wish every developer would keep updating their audience just like you. Stay healthy!

marcialart

Thanks a lot, GRRM! 🙂 Everyone here deserves to be updated for both the good and the not so good things. It took me some time to think about what was the best decision and I am pretty sure that this is the best one. Also, having a few days of less stress before launch is something that is needed and necessary to be able to act and fix quickly if any bugs arise at launch. However, I have been testing the game a lot and I've to say that everything is working flawlessly. 😉

Lobo1707

How long does it usually take for Steam to publish a submitted game? Do you think we can play it in about 15 days +/_?

marcialart

Hey Silvia 👋, I think the time will be around that because I've got to create a store for the game there and send it to them. Usually, the store has to be active for 15 days at minimum. I depend on Steam not rejecting the game, but really, nothing makes me think they will reject it because they already accepted season 1 the first time, and I make sure to follow all their policies to the letter like a good boy 🙂. You can be sure that what's coming is very caliente, fuego, fuego, llamen a los bomberos!!! 🥵😉

QT

imO. a great decision to release on all platforms for all tiers the same day.

marcialart

Hi Rafael! Every decision will have people for and people against it, especially when the community is so big, I'm very glad you think it's a great decision. 🙂😉

David Rose

It seems we need to cancel our Patreon subscriptions and get the game through Steam then, since we pay per month and Steam purchasers only pay when it releases. I tend to go with Patreon subscriptions for in-development games I play because I can get periodic updates sooner than I get a release Steam. I don't mind paying more for earlier access but can't see paying more for same-time access.

Etam

Good job my boy ..... I will wait and buy from Steam... 😉

marcialart

Hello David! 👋 I understand perfectly your point, choose the best option for you 🙂, the difference as you may have seen is that here on Patreon I make publications every Saturday and Sunday showing images of the development of the game as well as giving access to Discord, if you look at Steam you will see that there I have not done any of those 2 things, but if for you that does not give you an added value then having it only on Steam is the best option for you. Choose the one that suits you the best. 🙂

marcialart

Hello Etam! 👋 Ok, I hope that they accept it so it can be published on Steam soon. 😍

marcialart

Muchas gracias Jorge! 🙂

Bruce Toh Guan Teng

Delay with Steam's posting may be a blessing in disguise. This way, your loyal fans from Patreon and Subscribestar who has been supporting you gets the game first. A suggestion on how to beat F95 - will DM you at Discord on this

marcialart

Hey Bruuuuce! Hit me on Discord; I would love to hear your suggestion; I'm connected now. 😉

Bubbles

Can you clarify when you say Season 2 is ready to go, do you mean Season 2: Episode 1 or the entirety if Season 2?

marcialart

Hey Bubbles!!! Of course, sorry if it was not clear. It is Season 2: Episode 1. I will be developing Episode by Episode because doing a complete Season would take too much time. What is coming soon is the first episode of Season 2. 🙂

torre

Br4dders

I initially came across this game and many others from a pirated site. If I like a game I find, I like to seek out the devolper and support them in some way. I may be in the minority, but I do find these sites to be a useful resourse. Kinda like "try before you buy" lol. That being said, I totally understand the developers point of view, and just wish that the people playing pirated games took a similar approach to support you guys. I for one, can wait as long as it takes for the next release and I appreciate the regular progress updates. Keep up the fine work Marcial :)

mymmo84

Steve

Gutted it’s not coming here 1st but totally understand the decision

Chirac Kenji

piracy will always be present whatever the release. unfortunately this will be my last month in "impossible goal" but I accept the decision and I understand this decision in view of the hype.

marcialart

Muchas gracias Torre!!!

marcialart

Hello Bradford! 👋 Yes, there are people who use these sites as a way to test games, as if it were a kind of demo to evaluate if the game is active, if the developer is active and working on it, etc. And if they see this, they decide to support. 🙂 (Also as you say, sadly is a minority who have this approach.) Thanks for understanding the point of view, it's a decision not based on trying to stop piracy, because piracy is unstoppable. 😅 It's a decision based on trying to avoid a mountain of stress at this point after many months of work, I know what's coming in episode 1 is good, very good!, and that the vast majority will love it 😍😍😍, I want the launch to be a moment of celebration in every platform and for everyone to be able to enjoy it. 🤩

marcialart

Grazie mille Mymmo! 🤩

marcialart

Thanks for understanding, Steve. 🙂 I've thought long and hard about this decision, and I think it's for the best overall.

marcialart

Hey Chirac! 👋 Piracy is unstoppable and I, being a single person, cannot do anything against it. But the decision is not based on avoiding piracy, it is based on avoiding personally putting a mountain of stress on myself after working so hard these past months, I want the launch of the start of season 2 to be a moment of celebration and for everyone to enjoy it. If I don't make this decision then that moment of celebration will turn into hell as a huge community like Steam will be furious to see the game pirated on the internet when they, who are willing to buy it, don't even have it available. Some will understand my decision and some will not, I respect all points of view. For people who do not understand it and prefer to stop being Patreon, I can only say thank you very much for the time you have been Patreon and have supported the project, I can only say words of thanks. For those people who understand and want to continue as always here with me and the project obviously I also thank them, and they will know that overall this is a decision that helps me to have peace of mind as a developer to continue making IoM the best game possible! 😍🤩

Edan

Is it only this update that will be like this(synchronize launches across all platforms), or will it be the same in the future as well?

marcialart

Hello Edan! 👋 I've to explain a little more to give you a correct answer. 🙂 It will be sync'd across all platforms, but the first time you launch a Steam game, it needs to pass through Steam approval. Once it's approved, I think I can update it at any moment. So the first time, it has this delay, but for future episodes there will be no delay because it's already approved. In short, it will be sync'd and for all the episodes of Season 2 there won't be any Steam delay. 😉

Lobo1707

Deseando ver a Jen.🥰

marcialart

Dioooooos! 😉

Joseph Nero

So let me get this right! You are saying the game is ready to go but we must wait till the steam part is done? But on Patreon don’t we support you monthly. But if I go to steam and just buy the game I only pay you once and will be done Right?

marcialart

Hello Wolf! 👋 No, the game is not ready yet; translations, sounds, and coding are not 100% complete. Once it's completed, it will be launched on all platforms at the same time, including Steam. You can choose to only support on Steam if you prefer it that way. 😉

El_patron

Thank you for sharing these thoughts with us. It shows what, to me at least, has contributed to making you the most popular creator of interactive games : your dedication to your community (in addition to your obvious many, many talents, ranging from the artistic - storytelling, writing, and the creation of these deep and multifaceted personalities - to the technological - I’m no expert in this particular area, but I’m under the assumption that you’ve pushed the technical boundaries of RenPy, which led to Ren helping you create the result you were aiming for, and making RenPy an even better product in the process (or maybe I totally misunderstood this part because I’m an idiot, haha). I also want to add that, while frustrating, piracy can also have its benefits: the first time I played IoM was by “testing it” on a platform like F95. There are so many similar games around that one simply cannot buy them without risking to be extremely disappointed. However, there’s a difference between playing an old release of your game, and subscribing to your Patreon after having discovered the exceptional quality of IoE, and simply waiting for the releases at h+24. As this is a pretty recent industry, I hope that creators can find together a solution and maybe collectively create a “creator-approved” platform, offering demos of their creations (with a reasonable amount of content to let people discover said creations), without going through Steam as I can totally understand that people want their privacy protected, while others prefer to use their favorite platform. My point is: piracy brought me to your Patreon, and I think (I can’t remember exactly) that I’ve been a loyal supporter of your outstanding work for quite a while. :) And this applies to other games as well. Thanks for your outstanding work, I can’t wait to see what masterpiece you have concocted for us, your fans. And thank you for explaining your decision regarding the S02 release. I wish I could broadcast this on platforms like F95: “subscribe and support MartialArts, because you’re missing out on what sets him apart from most creators: what he gives to his community!” Also… Something I’ve always wondered, but never wanted to bother you with… Would it be technically possible to slightly alter the figure of the characters? While I love Jen, I have a huge thing for slenderness (thin/skinny, tall, and most of all smaller breast and bottom.) This is in no way a critique of Jen - otherwise I simply wouldn’t play the game, :) ! It’s more of a theoretical, technical question. I really don’t know RenPy, so I have no idea if slightly altering the figure of a character would be possible, or just a nightmare, with every animation having to be re-rendered, etc… once again, I’m definitely not asking for such a feature, just being curious. :) Thanks again for your sharing the rationale behind the releases dates! Your community is with you and supports you, and we’ll all celebrate the launch of season 2, along with your supporters on Steam!!!! :)
