You definitely handled it better than most people would have lol, systematically getting through and then fighting that annoying-ass boss duo! This is one of the few things I genuinely dislike about DS2, it's so poorly implemented. There is a similar area thematically in Elden Ring which is so, so much better in every way and shows that they did in fact learn something from the experience at least.
