Mimi's Illustration Club June - Third Activity! (Patreon)

Hello lovelies,

After I drew my composition sketches so many of you said that you liked the second sketch the most so I had to draw that one for my final illustration! 🐔🐮🐷

So far in the club this month we’ve:

filled a sketchbook page with ideas relating to the prompt

then we explored some composition sketches from those ideas

and now we can take one of those composition ideas and create a final illustration from it

If you skipped the first activities and came straight to drawing a final illustration that's totally fine!

So I’ll show you what I created for this activity based on a sketch from activity 2:

This is my final illustration for the prompt 'farmyard friends' and I think they turned out super cute! Such a happy bunch 💖

Let me show you a quick breakdown of my illustration process and the basic palette that I used (which you can download below if you'd like to use it yourself):

 My process went a little something like this:

First I drew a simple digital sketch based on the pencil sketch from the second activity. I kept most things the same but adjusted the framing a bit to have the animals higher, and changed where the flowers sit.

Then I made that sketch layer about 30% opacity so that I could see through it and use it as a reference.

On new layers below, I coloured in all of the main elements, keeping things that are different colours on different layers. Things that will get the same shading/details like the flowers can all go on a layer together.

Then I added details like faces and lots of lovely spots for the cow!

Once all of the base layers are done, I start adding texture and shading to everything using my texture brushes. Most elements get a broad pass of texture, and then a couple of more defined layers of shading.

And then it's finished!

Now it's your turn (yay!) - take one of the composition sketches that you drew in activity 2 and create a final illustration from it (if you haven't already). Or if you feel like it you can do a completely new idea!
