Hello everyone,

I've traded the sunny skies of the mediterranean for the windy coastline of Scotland, but I am ready for some cosy, rainy days of illustrating! I had such a lovely summer exploring Italy but now that I'm back in the UK I've settled into a quiet Airbnb for all of September so that I can focus on drawing and on creating my new class about starting a creative business.

I've already been doing lots of sketching since I got here last week and am feeling inspired to create lots of lovely things.

It really feels like autumn is around the corner up here with the windy, rainy weather and some of the trees are already starting to change colour so I'll definitely be drawing some autumn illustrations soon!

Something that I would really love to do is make a little fictional world to base my illustrations in, something that feels quaint and wholesome and maybe a little bit magical. There would be lots of animals living there in beautiful dens and burrows, spending their time gardening and baking and doing all of the things we wish we could spend our time on!

I've started sketching out some ideas for it, and I think it would just help give a bit of a 'theme' to my art and make it feel a bit more cohesive. I can still draw other things, but I think that building a fictional world would be so lovely and maybe I could write a children's book based on it some day.

What have you been working on? Are you looking forward to a change of seasons or were you enjoying the summer/winter?

Hi Mimi, such a lovely post. I love the idea of creating your own world for your characters. I have a similar dream, to create some characters and “follow” their lives around, when they are doing the things I wish I was doing ☺️ I think the world you will create will be lovely and I can’t wait to see more of it ❤️

Creating a cosy fictional world is such a lovely idea😊 I hope you enjoy your time in Scotland. Wet and windy or not, I always find being by the sea so inspiring and refreshing🥰

I love this idea of creating a fictional world to base your characters and scenes within! You make such adorable anthropomorphized animal characters, it would be lovely to see little stories around them too. Autumn is my favorite so I'm really excited that it's September! I'm very excited for all the fall drawing challenges and excited for the weather to get a bit cooler after a long summer.

Those are some spectacular views and lovely sketches! Yeah part of the reason why I wanted to learn to draw is so I could illustrate the little stories in my head and to eventually make art for my own game. So I relate heavily to wanting to create a fictional world with the animals, and can't wait to see some recurring characters from your world and the adventures they get up to! ☺️

I think that autumn is definitely my favourite season, that's why I'm spending a lot of time drawing autumn's staff! I love the colors, I love home activities (feeling a little lazy watching anime or reading a book while drinking a hot chocolate...) Those really cute sketches will live perfectly in the world you're thinking for them! Also Scotland is very beautiful, I've seen it in summer and I remember it was really green (who has been there knows what I mean ahah) but I think in autumn's red and orange colors is sure very beautiful and inspirational!

Yes! A great way to live vicariously and pretend that I have a cosy house in the forest and can spend all my time reading and baking 😄

It's so pretty here in a really wild kind of way, the early trees are just starting to change colours 😍
