Mimi's Illustration Club September - Third Activity! (Patreon)
Content
Hello lovelies,
I've just drawn my final illustration for this month's club and just couldn't resist drawing the cosy cat all rugged up in their quilted blanket!
So far in the club this month we’ve:
filled a sketchbook page with ideas relating to the prompt
then we explored some composition sketches from those ideas
and now we can take one of those composition ideas and create a final illustration from it
If you skipped the first activities and came straight to drawing a final illustration that's totally fine!
So I’ll show you what I created for this activity based on a sketch from activity 2:
This is my final illustration for the prompt 'a rainy day' and I think it feels nice and cosy! I know that technically nothing about it suggests that it's raining, but we don't have to take drawing prompts literally - as long as they inspire an idea that's the main thing ✨
Let me show you a quick breakdown of my illustration process and the basic palette that I used (which you can download below if you'd like to use it yourself):
My process went a little something like this:
First, I drew a simple digital sketch based on the pencil sketch that I drew in the second activity. I gave them a cute patterned jumper to make them feel extra cosy!
Then I made that sketch layer about 30% opacity so that I could easily see through it.
On new layers below, I coloured in all of my main elements. There weren't many pieces to this illustration so the face is on one layer, the arms on another, then the cup, the jumper and the whole blanket are on their own layers.
I added the details to the quilted blanket and the jumper using texture brushes so that it feels a bit like pencil.
Then I gave everything a broad pass of texture with my Textured Pencil Light brush and added shading mostly with my Soft Crayon brush.
And that's about it!
Now it's your turn (yay!) - take one of the composition sketches that you drew in activity 2 and create a final illustration from it (if you haven't already). Or if you feel like it you can do a completely new idea!
If you do draw a final illustration with the prompt this month then feel free to share it with us over on Discord in the #final-illustrations channel or in the community chat here on Patreon. Everyone is welcome, and you can share what you've created for any of the activities at any time!
I'm really looking forward to seeing how your illustrations turn out ❤
