August Art Challenge & PDF Guide - Creative Illustration Curriculum (Patreon)

Hello everyone,

I've just started working on the Creative Illustration Curriculum for this month and have made our pdf guide to help us with the topic. So excited to draw the challenge for this month!

This month's focus is: exploring basic storytelling by capturing a specific moment in time with a character and emotion.

To help us explore this focus together, the art challenge for this month is to:

Draw a scene that captures a moment in time, using an emotion to help you tell the story.

Visual storytelling is about conveying a message or emotion with our art, and one way that we can do that is by capturing a specific moment in time in our art. I like to brainstorm moments by choosing an emotion first, and then thinking about what actions could be frozen in time to express that emotion in a single illustration.

For example, if I choose frustration as the emotion for the visual story, then an action to capture that in a frozen scene could be:

dropping an ice cream

stepping in a muddy puddle

losing a game

tripping over a toy

For this month's challenge I’m planning to draw a dog being walked on a leash who has suddenly broken away because they’re chasing something that they shouldn’t be. I think it’ll make for a lively scene!

I'll be filming my process of completing this activity next week, and sharing the real-time process without voiceover with all tiers, and a tutorial version with voiceover with Beautiful Bluebells.
