Hello my flowers, I posted this illustration to Instagram on Monday and it's had the most reach of anything I've ever posted which was very unexpected. I can never tell how well received an illustration will be, but generally I find it's the very simple, wholesome drawings that do well!

How many likes something has isn't an indication of how good the art is at all so please don't focus on it too much, but it is a useful metric if you're trying to grow a social media account because it can tell you what's working for your audience.

Some general things that usually do especially well on my account are:

girls holding cats

cottages

flowers with happy faces

hosting drawing challenges

So here is a quick mini breakdown of how these flowers were drawn!

As always, the process goes something like:

create my sketch

reduce the opacity of that sketch to about 20% and change layer blend mode to 'multiply'

on new layers beneath block in basic colours

with a texture brush add shading

with a fine brush add details

I also want to say a HUGE thank you for supporting me in June, if you watched my latest YouTube video that I released this week you'll know that I'm working on making illustration my full time job and I couldn't do it without you, so thank you!
