Hello Beautiful Bluebells!

For this month's drawing walkthrough video I've drawn us a lovely flower garden with lots of layers! I wanted to show you an example of drawing from a reference, organising layers and maintaining contrast when using lots of similar colours (like green!).

Next month's video will be more lesson style, I'll put out a poll soon to ask what topic you'd like me to cover first (maybe something like colours, texture or brushes?).

The reference photo I used is one I found on Pinterest - it's pinned in my Cute Cottages board - and it's from the Pacific Horticulture account (here is the link to the original page).

I've attached below the Photoshop file for this illustration so that you can have a look through the layers if you like (does it work in Procreate?). Let me know if you have any questions at all!

I hope you enjoy this video! You can find the other videos in these playlists:

A summary of the technical details:★ I'm using Adobe Photoshop on my Microsoft Surfacebook 2★ The main brush I use is the 'natural feel' brush from Kyle's Megapack Brushes (you can download them here if you use Photoshop), and I also used 'encaustic grit' from the same pack★ My artboard is 2200x2200px at 150ppi and RGB colour mode

Hey Mimi! It is very helpful to get the files in psd from you. It does work in Procreate quite well. Only when you have a shape as background it does look weird bc it looks outside the boundaries of the shape background. But they are really helpful to understand the process. So thank you.❤️❤️

Any suggestions for what to look for in a brush set for Procreate? Is it dry ink style? I love the texture of the brushes you’re using but I don’t have photoshop.

Hi Jacqui! I generally go for crayon or pencil style brushes that have an even texture to them. I don't own Procreate but I'll have a look around for some brushes that I would try out if I did have Procreate and I'll share what I find this week 😊

Thank you so much! That’s really kind of you to look into even though you don’t use procreate! 😊
