Happy weekend beautiful flowers!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped me decide what character to draw this week. It was SO CLOSE between this girl and a boy in a raincoat, I think I'll draw the boy next week because he was a very close second.

I had a lot of fun drawing this girl on Friday afternoon, I wanted her to be in a really green setting as if she were in amongst lots of plants (with ladybugs!).

Here is a little snapshot of the drawing process.

It went a little something like this:

draw a rough sketch

lower the opacity of that sketch to about 20%

underneath, block in the shapes for all the main elements (on different layers)

hide sketch layer

add texture and shading to all of the elements

And that's it! The background for this character is really simple, I've drawn a few plants but otherwise it's just a flat colour and then I've kind of faked some depth with a few more leafy shapes in a flat colour. It's an easy way to make it look like your background is more complex than it is!

I probably spent about 2.5 to 3 hours drawing this character, which I think is a nice way to spend a Friday afternoon!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend, it's looking to be quite a rainy one here but I think we'll pop out to a cafe anyway and then I want to decorate my studio properly. I'll show you some photos once it's done ❤

Really cute!! Love her 💕. Which format do you use for paintings? (The size, pixels etc). Thank you so much for explaining how you work. She’s adorable 😍

All of my Instagram illustrations are drawn on 2200x2200px artboards, at 150ppi. It's more resolution that I need for Instagram but it's a high enough resolution that I can do other things with the artwork (like printing) 😊
