Hello my beautiful flowers!
It's a whole new year and after a busy December jam-packed with creating and catching up with friends and family I'm finally back home in my cozy little studio with all of 2022 in front of me.
I'm going to spend this week doing some planning and easing myself into the year, although it's tempting to start off with a bang and head into lots of activities in January I also know that I need a rest (especially as an introvert who spent the last three weeks socialising) so I'm going to try and avoid committing to any crazy challenges (just yet).
Having said that though I do have some things I want to work on this year and some of them I'll start doing this month. They are:
Drawing more in my sketchbook just for the fun of it (which I love doing but often get carried away with digital art and sometimes forget to set aside time to just enjoy using coloured pencils)
Improve my landscape/background skills (by browsing art books and watching videos)
Setting aside time for active learning (I spent a lot of time last year experimenting on my own but this year want to also invest in courses or videos to actively learn from other artists)
If I do these three things as well as generally just creating illustrations regularly then I think I'll be happy with that!
^ I got another issue of Character Design Quarterly for Christmas and they're always full of beautiful art and tutorials! This artist is called Pauline Penhouet and their art is so beautiful.
I'll start drawing in my sketchbook this month and will share with you all what I create, which will also help keep my accountable! I don't have any expectations for the art in my sketchbook, it's more for the enjoyment of it and the casual experimentation, so perhaps I'll set aside 30 minutes here or there to do it.
I also have some bigger things I want to achieve in my business this year and lots of small things I want to create, but I have to be careful about over-committing because I often get excited about ideas and then suddenly have lots of things to do!
But some ideas that are on the list are:
Creating at least one video course about either getting started with digital art or building an art business
Creating a 2-4 week workbook/challenge for making art consistently
Finishing my brush set
Illustrating a second picture book (which is already in the works!)
Creating a guidebook for building art confidence
I guess a lot of what I want to focus on this year is encouraging others and giving them the tools they need to create the art they want to make.
Thanks so much for joining me here on Patreon in 2022! Do you have any specific things you want to work on this year with your art?❤
