Hi lovelies!

Hope you're having a good week so far, I've been drawing non-stop to finish off the illustrations for my second picture book!

I did get a chance though yesterday to also draw a new art challenge for Instagram to celebrate reaching 100k followers (which totally blows my mind). I started taking my art seriously and posting consistently nearly 2 years ago exactly and when I started I never expected to be celebrating a milestone like this!

So I thought I would share a little breakdown of the illustration process with you. I originally sketched a bird on her shoulder but then I kind of just forgot about it and by the time I remembered I decided she was nice without the bird anyway 😄

As always, the process went a little something like this:

I start out by drawing a sketch of my composition on one layer

I then reduce the opacity of that sketch to about 20% and turn the layer to multiply blend mode

On new layers below, I draw a shape of colour for each element (usually each colour has it's own layer to make it easier to add shading)

Then I add lots of shading and texture to each of those elements

I'll add in cute details like patterns on the leaves and flowers

For this drawing I also added the text up the top!

And that's it 😊

I've been using this colour palette quite a bit lately and I really like it, feel free to use it for your own art!

And if you want to join my Instagram art challenge then you can find the details on my post here ❤
